Shortclara-I'm pretty sure it's vintage.I have a good friend that collects vintage patterns and can draw her own,but I think she used a 1940s wideleg pant pattern and added the bib.

I thought to doing that :) Thanks!

I can't wait to see it--I love that suit.

I meant kind of like the drawing, rather than the picture - realise I might not have been very clear!

Mine is a navy 40s or 50s suit, English tailor made. Good quality, but being very plain, it is hard to date it exactly. I had to drop the hem and sleeves and let the skirt out a tiny bit, but otherwise it is a very good fit.

I'll be wearing it with a more 30s flavour, in honour of the QM's heyday.

I want a swagger suit!

One of those early 30s slim-skirt and coat combos, in a green and brown tweed with loads of brown fox trim.

I would love to make one but am not a great seamstress...

My dream dress...well, if I ever get married, I want my dress to look like my grandmother's. It had a chantilly lace bodice with 3/4 length sleeves and scoop neckline, pillbox hat, and the skirt has miles of tulle underneath it, ending mid-calf [actually, my memory held wrong, it's almost floor-length]. My favorite part of the dress is the pale pink sash around the waist. She still has her gown, of course, but it has a nice dark wine stain all down the front! And I could never wear it--she had a 20" waist.

...Yes, yes, I know I'm quoting myself. But! I found a picture of the dress:

Original designs

I can't really say I have something I have designed- usually I innovate, not invent. I _am_ fond of the 1950's gabardine jackets with the piping, contrasted yoke, front vents, etc etc.
Mostly right now I feel I need to get my current skills HONED before I move forward. I would grade my work to be a "B" for pants, B- or C+ for shirts, D for jackets....
Any good ideas for improvement?

Translation?

Yeah, I'd consider transvestism. The clothes are easier to make, and the know-how easier to get. Of course, if drag doesn't float yer boat...[huh]

lol ;) :D jes' funnin' ya, 'ats all!

What???? [huh] [huh] [huh]
Actually women's clothing is HARDER to make- more darts, pleats, contoured shapes. Men's clothing is pretty boxy in comparison.

haha. if i was actually thin AND crafty at the same time?...i'd make these. these are both just a few sketches i'm playing with for a graphic novel concept. i came up with these frocks off the top of my head, so they may not be "period."

the evening gown! it HAS to be a 30's inspired gown.

hehe. thank you! i thought the summer outfit was particularly fun looking. lol i realize know, however, that i should have put some movement in the clothes, 'cause she's on a boardwalk and last time i checked it was kind of windy on the boardwalk. lol

I'm getting married soon, and I have the EXACT image of the dress I want in my head, but unfortunately only there!

It will have a sheer 2 quarter-length sleeve top with a v neck and small pearl buttons, over a bodice with a nipped in waist and calf length full skirt. I have tried to do a (very poor!) drawing on microsoft paint:

I wish it existed!

Zaika, not only can you draw the dresses but your faces have personality! That's hard! I am so impressed!

oh...gosh. thank you miss 1929. i appreciate that a lot! i am a huge fan of the russian painter ilya repin, and when i was in russia, my art teacher told me that one of the reasons repin was so great was that every face he ever painted was different. you could read a story in each and every one, just like in real life. that made a lasting impression on me...and i try to do that myself. but...i'm no artist...just a scribbler. lol
