Downsize for aero cafe racer?

Hello! Aero has recommended that I downsize the chest measurement by 2 inches for their cafe racer, but not their board racer. I have a 41.5” relaxed chest, so I suggested 42” but they are suggesting 40” for the cafe racer.

It would be great to hear your thoughts if you own this style.

Thanks!

Boardracer is slim fit, Café Racer is regular to relaxed. In this respect, I would definitely downsize for a tighter fit.
On the other hand, the Café Racer also looks good when it's too big. So, as usual, a matter of taste.

This one is two sizes too big, but still looks cool.

Yes, this is the best way to get a good fit for the Cafe Racer style.
Did they also recommend adding 0.5 inches to the waist of the Cafe Racer? It has very broad shoulders and a pretty dramatic drop to the waist.
My old Cafe Racer (size 40) had a 23 inch Pit to Pit and 19 inch shoulder
My Board Racer (size 42) has 22.5 inch Pit to Pit and 18 inch shoulder.

I am a size 42 in most things (flat head etc) and the picture below shows my aero café racer size 42. If I sized down the FQHH would just be too restrictive.

For reference the 42 highwayman and 42 teamster I have from aero were too big on me.

No where near as experts as the previous members, but I've bought both the Board Racer and Sheene (Cafe Racer based) from Aero recently. Super-happy with the Boardracer (FQHH) - following their recomendations, fits exactly as I want.

The Sheene wasn't as great, even with a light Vicenza leather and I'd echo @ProteinNerd's warning on a big drop shoulders to waist. In my case sizing down to the relaxed chest (42.5") was marginally tight across the shoulders (for any layering) and the waist too tight, so we're re-doing the jacket with a bit extra on the shoulder and a bit more on the waist. I think @MrProper's advice is great (complimenting his style!) so were I starting again I'd err on the side of caution and go with a bit of extra space - but as always its subjective, personal taste, YMMV etc. :)

I envy people who can pull off the Aero Café Racer fit - I find that I have to size up two sizes in CR (and then it's marginally too big in a 44) - the size 42 is slightly too tight. I can just about zip up the size 42s if I swim regularly, but I'm safer with Half Belts and the Maxwell styles.

42 is generally my size erring on the +

Both of these are that, although the Black teacore is slightly smaller and the hides move differently;
