Double Helix Leather Stain Treatment

I posted about this issue already awhile back on another thread but I wanted to see if anyone here can help me troubleshoot an issue I’m having with a Double Helix jacket I ordered awhile back.

Long story short, I ordered a bespoke jacket that used DH tan vegetable tanned leather that while beautiful is extremely sensitive to water and leaves stain marks at even the slightest droplet of moisture. I swear you can stare at this thing and a ring will develop!

I recently wore the jacket out for an evening and some water dripped on the lapel and left a very noticeable streak, so I finally said screw it and wiped it down hoping to blend it in a bit. The photos you see below are the result of that little experiment. It looks better but still not great, and you can still see the original water mark below the blended pattern.

My question is where do I go from here?!

I could wipe down the entire jacket in hopes of making it more uniform but I know the problem will continue to persist. I’m open to applying a product to coat the entire jacket if need and maybe make it more water repellent but I’m not sure if that’s the right approach either, or what to use. Maybe a wax of some sort?

My white's boots in natural maryam are pretty similar. some water stains and some doesn't.

the only thing that really helped was damp cloth blending, brushing, and just letting them darken and age with frequent brushings. I also used venetian leather balm which improved the look imo.

the spots where I went too hard trying to blend, I made it worse.

You might need to soak the whole jacket in the tub. Cold water, and let it dry for a few days in a cool spot.

I would wipe down the whole jacket with a damp/wet but not soak it.

There will always be color variations, spots, stains etc., but by wiping it down you may be able to kind of blur the effect.
My personal experience with light/natural hides is that while the first (water, insect) spots are very noticeable, with aging the whole hide kind of marbles and individual stains etc. are no longer offensive.

yeah keep wiping it down with a damp cloth, focus on the surrounding areas try to blend it in. The natural hides is like this, there is a journey and a part of that journey is spotty pain...

Had issues with an ELC Capeskin in ‘butterscotch’ A-1 that is a stain magnet, tried leather specialists and all sorts to remove various marks / stains with little success. Gave up in the end and now just enjoy the jacket.

Just give it time. Like others have said, accepting and embracing stains is part of the process of owning a jacket in a lighter color.
