Mike - I was only in NY last year but we were still in the bidding process for our home - in fact we were putting in our offer waiting to go through immigration! Would love to go on a home shopping spree in the USA - when I see all the beautiful things Loungers have found in Thrift and Goodwill stores - well, you'd wouldn't find anything like that here!

W-D Forties - Thank you so much for that link - some fabulous stuff! Some of it is a little on the pricey side but some of the smaller things are quite reasonable - I think that it's nice to have little vintage touches throughout your home even if you can't afford go the whole hog! I particularly like the Airing Rack - when I was in our new utility room I was thinking if I could get one of those that would fit in the room it could be a brilliant idea (thought I'd have to hit a salvage yard or vintage store for one) so I will keep that in mind - it would be so handy to have!

I work at Home Depot (Millwork Specialist) in the Door and Window Dept. We have a nice selection of custom interior doors from JeldWen and Feather River that would meet your needs including the Shaker style. They aren't cheap but they are good quality. Most of the older homes around here have the solid pine or oak standard 6 panel doors in them. The biggest concern is the size. A standard door is 28, 30, 32 or 36" wide by 80" tall. Some older homes have a 76" height which makes it a custom door now which means more $$$$. Measure before you go looking. We also carry the glass door knobs like you had in your post above. We have the whole knob system or just the replacement glass piece. Just tossing it out there to you before you have some Amish guy make custom doors for you -LOL! I don't get paid comission.

P.S. I wear a hat every day with my orange apron. The name on my apron is Terry "The Hat" LOL, people have no problem remembering me when they come back to order.

Terry - sorry I'm so slow in getting back to you! I would love to take you up on your offer of help but I don't live anywhere near you unfortunately! We ordered the Shaker style door in the end - that was the style I felt would suit our home and wouldn't date (despite some people saying they would!) - looking forward to seeing them installed!

Bunnyb.gal - thank you so much for that thread - just having a look at it now and drooling over those stunning doors! Sadly some of them look in need of a little TLC which I hope they get sooner rather than later!

We are looking to get a new hall door with at 30's feel to it so have sent pictures to the door shop to give them an idea of what we want - so far they don't seem to be "getting it" so we're going to have to go back to them again and be clearer about what we want. Something like this with a slightly more modern feel to it - with longer panels of wood on each side of the door:

I've seen plenty of houses in Dublin with the kind of door that we want - in fact I went around taking sneaky pictures of them and sent them to our door supplier - I hope they can make exactly what we want or we'll have to go elsewhere.....

Thanks for that! Beautiful doors (my sister in law has just chosen something similar but new) and that was one of the styles I was thinking about. The shaker style is what we finally decided on and they should be installed in a few weeks time. Will post photos once we move in!
