Doniger Contract

Bringing this thread back to Donigers IMO the GW Doniger is one of the very best contract John currently makes. It is a stylish and comfortable design with the inset sleeves. My 2011 Doniger is 100% spot on which is not the case with all GW contracts. The new Indian veg tanned aniline dyed goatskin is exactly like the goat used on my original Donigers. Good for John to maintain absolute authenticity and refuse to make a Doniger in hh.

I can attest to the quality of that new goat! Not in jacket form yet, but the samples are incredible. I believe Andrew here. I actually want a jacket now made of it - I'm normally more interested in HH.
Man, I need more money lol

Allen,
I think I'm leaning (I know, I know) towards the '38 Aero. Now that you've posted more pics on it, even closer. Thanks for putting them up. At least I'm down to less than 4 now lol

Also - is that the "LHJ101" hide?

Scott

The hide on the 38 Aero is John's red russett wax finish Japanese HH. It is not on his availiable leather page. I'm not sure if he will be offering it anymore.

Don't be put off the thinner hide Joel. If the cut allows a thin modern insulating layer underneath it'll cope. It's hovering around zero C here and I'm wearing a capeskin jacket without discomfort.

That's interesting. I wouldn't insulate the jacket, just the cotton lining. I'm curious how cold I can take a goatskin jacket if you can take capeskin down to zero C.

John also isn't showing pigment dark russet on his available leather page either. The Poughkeepsie is a nice contract and I grew up near there, but my understanding is they only did pigment finish jackets.

No you misunderstood me Joel. Sorry didn't explain properly - I meant layering (wearing a thin insulating layer under the jacket) not modifying it.
My ELC A-1 is fine with a thermal vest, long sleeved shirt and sleeveless fairisle sweater. Put an old cotton scarf around your neck and/button up the jacket to the top of the knitted collar (add gloves and a beret or ushanka) and you're good to go!
