I'd say thats a great idea.

Alternatively, MK could go the Cafepress route with mugs et al.

And another thing that's been going on in COW is the Challenge Coin--but who's to say that can't be a fundraiser?

Cheers

How?

Thanks to the Fedora Lounge, I've learned a heck of a lot and saved $$$ on hat purchases. Most importantly, I've enjoyed your company, both in cyberspace and, more recently, in the real world. Without a doubt, I've received much more than I've given ... and I suspect that this applies to many of you, too.

Which begs the question: why should MK have to foot the bill for all of this? Why don't we CONTRIBUTE some cash to this place? All it takes is each of us making a donation via PayPal to MK's account. If you (and you, and you) and I sent, say, $10 to MK, we would give something back for all the posting and learning that goes on around here.

What do you say, Loungers? How about it?

While I have a Paypal account, I am not completely sure how to send the money to MK. Specifically, what account do I specify? With that info I'd be happy to contribute.

MK, if he so chooses, could let us know the name of his PayPal account. He could even set up the link, so that the only thing we'd have to do is click it, type out the amount we choose to donate, and presto.

Difficult to believe someone insists on paying for something when no one has asked them to do so. Are you sure you all are on the same planet I am on? I like this place but paying to use it rubs me the wrong way. I pay enough for the internet and don't need to pay any extras. I would rather do without. What happens to all the poor slobs that don't have a paypal account or can't afford to send anyone money...... before they even ask for it? One of the reasons this place is so nice is that it is free of charge. Start asking for donations and it turns into a predictable, boring, exclusive good old boys club. If MK was holding his hat out for a quarter it would be different. I still would not pay but it would be different than someone coming here telling people to send money.....to someone else! Leaves me with a bad taste about donating in general. This is a great place to toss around ideas and learn about vintage things and it would be a shame if it was ruined by money. MK has proven many times that he knows what he is doing here. If he needs a couple of bucks, he will chime in. Hold on to your wallets.

If MK asks for a donation or other Bartenders recommend it, I would certainly send something, but am not going to donate unless I know it is acceptable to them.

Do what you can,

..with what you got. I see value and can afford to choose to offer to help. I don't think anyone is proposing to make FL a pay-as-you-go site.

You wouldn't be able to donate without their permission ... because you wouldn't know their PayPal account name unless they gave it to you first.

Again, making a contribution would be completely voluntary. Those who can afford to give, would be doing so for themselves and for those who cannot. "He's not heavy -- he's my brother."

The Fedora Lounge is not free of charge. Someone is footing most of the bill.

Precisely said.

When MK comes on here and says 'please send donations to my paypal, which is as follows'......then I would wager many of us will do so.

He has not done this. Anyone else speaking for him is just jumping the gun. Regardless of motive, thats the issue here.

Fortunately, your (valid) concern is unwarranted. No one here is speaking for MK.
Someone (me) is making an observation and proposing to help a good guy.
Sort of like, "Hey, gang. Let's help out Spanky!" (Ever seen "The Little Rascals"?)

Does the site need money? And if so how much.

It sounds like a Public Radio/Television telethon thing. Do we get a CD or T-Shirt if we donate so much?

It's more like "Hey, gang. Let's help out Spanky, even though he does not need help!" I would think that your efforts would be put to better use helping someone that asks you for help. Why are you suddenly worried about MK's ability to produce this site? Do you not feel that you are presuming too much thinking he would want "donations"? It seems you have good intentions but I still scratch my head and shrug my shoulders to your idea.

The Fedora Lounge is free of charge to me and to you. Why not contact MK and donate your services to maintain the site? Does that not seem helpful?

Good for you Marc Chevalier.

I agree with you that this is costing someone money. Nothing is free. Let alone what monatary value you place on personal time to run this site. My hat's (Fedora) off to MK for his time and effort on implementing and running this site. Great topic Marc. I for one would belly up to the bar if MK asked for help. :cheers1:

I can't speak for MK, or the Lounge as a whole, but as far as I know, the Lounge is doing okay for now. When you folks buy mousepads, matchbooks, mugs, and other paraphernalia from MK, it's supporting the Lounge.

In short, I think I can say that we appreciate the gesture, but it's not necessary right now. I am positive that MK will let you folks know if we're ever in any need of donations, but for now, just enjoy yourselves, and worry not about the bills :)

You're intentions are honerable, but not needed. Support the Lounge by buying the merchandise listed ...mugs, matchbooks, mouespads..

If MK needed cash, the Bartenders woud fork out before the general membership. Thanks for the love.

It was just an offer. I appreciate the site and the work all of you do. You have our best wishes and deepest regards. Thanks for everything!

Thanks guys for the kind words and offers. The joint is getting more expensive to run as bandwidth goes through the roof, but I am hoping that it can be paid for by the merchandise that we are creating. The mugs sold well, but the mousepads have not caught on yet....which is the coolest thing we have come up with yet. Also we have matchbooks too. Also we have advertising available...but none of the vendors have taken us up on it yet....not that we have asked. We have only offered to those who have inquired. We have other projects in the works too.

Thanks again.

Although my postings have been a bit light as of late, I too would only be more than happy to cover the cost of a bit of that bandwidth by way of a check. In the meantime, I'm ready to buy that calendar whenever it rolls off the presses!
