Hello all,

I've been lurking for some time. I just recieved my Territory from hatsdirect.com. (It only took week.) Ron made it long oval 62cm. It fits perfectly.

However the right side of the large brim has a minor dog-ear. I'm nervous to steam it on the first day. The felt is not damaged, just dented.

Any suggestions would appreciated.

Don't be afraid

You could try a little cold water, but I found the stiffer Akubra's respond better to steam, about 6 to 8 inches away. Don't worry, the Akubra can take it!

Steam wins!

I could not get the hat wet enough without soaking it. I steamed it for a minute and it flattened out well enough.

Thanks.

Thanks again to Ron at hatsdirect.com for his help in the purchase and "custom" fit.

First Impressions

Love the Territory. I'm a construction contractor and the hat will get some abuse. The abuse started this week, four days of soaking rain.

The hat did not shrink as I was afraid. Ron includes some sticky foam to size down. Well that squished down pretty fast. I cut terrycloth strips and inserted them behind the sweatband and that works very well.

I am concernd that the hat will stretch too much at the band over time and set the crown on top of my melon. Do felts hats tend to stretch or contract at the band?

Again thanks much.

PS. I'm walking down to Bencraft on Broadway this afternoon.
