I think for me, with regards to how one feels, I am usually guarded as I've put up with enough bad people off line and online...and this may come across as being cold, aloof, etc.

I have noticed that people tend to misread/misinterpret my being reserved, and rather quiet...with a bit of shyness, as being aloof and unapproachable.

Another problem with "play" and vintage female partners, or at least the ones in California ... some of them wear 1930s-'40s vintage silk or rayon undergarments, garter belts and stockings. "Developments" screech to a near-halt as they (not you!) ever-so-carefully take off these gossamer museum pieces. lol

Hahah Marc! Your last 2 posts are so funny. I really know what you mean. Didn't have the museum piece situation though. Hahaha.

Let's not get the "play" too serious. The "finding the right partner" stuff is a story of it's own.

All work and no play makes jack a dull boy.

Unfortunately, it's those wacky ones who tend to be the most, er, passionate and, um, exploratory. The price we pay!

Very true! But I'm not marrying them, and don't own a pet rabbit, so it's all good. ;)

It was interesting, I went out the other night for a drink with some friends and I wore a recently acquired 40's sport coat, slacks, the works. I received so many compliments.

Our server told me several times she wished her boyfriend dressed the way I was, and made me give her many details about where and how I procure my attire.

Another gal said "I wish I had a boyfriend dressed like you."

I'm not sure if she quite caught my "this can be arranged look" but who cares, that's play right? Oh no, did I just start a discussion within this one? Or have we defined 'play" already. I'M DOING IT AGAIN!

Actually, now that I reflect on it and contrary to my previous posts, gals seem to like suits, even ones my age as I've gotten a few compliments, but it's pretty hard to tell whether they are being sincere or sarcastic.

Back when I was single, the aroma of my pipe tobacco smoke used to get me play. Seriously. The problem with vintage is that it tends to get you play with vintage'd ladies, some of whom unleash manic-depressive drama queen behavior when you're already "hooked". Unfortunately, it's those wacky ones who tend to be the most, er, passionate and, um, exploratory. The price we pay!

Just make sure all of the knives are out of the kitchen and stored away securely before they come over and you'll be mostly ok.

I dont dress vintage, per se, but I always wear a large crowned and brimmed fedora. That alone gets me some looks and smiles from the fairer sex. Occasionally, I'll go out with a hat, and a shirt and tie with a 4-pocket vest with my watch and chain strung through it. That also adds to the number of check-outs. I dont think Ive had a negative experience with this.

I am very comfortable dressing how I like, even though I am often not dressed like everyone else. It does count in 'pulling off' a look, and people can look at you and sense 'costume' or 'real deal.'

I also think that dressing 'up' a bit from your surroundings is never a bad thing, and most people that arent suffering from some sort of insecurity disorder do appreciate it.

in my area just wearing pants/shirt that aren't three sizes too big and sporting logos gets the attention of the ladies.

this was my outfit for last weekend (not exactly vintage), but the comment i got was "oh, sexy, you look like a '50's boy-band".

Seconded. Just looking like you are comfortable in what your wearing, i.e your wearing the clothes rather than the other way round is always attractive, whether it's a suit, cuffed jeans and engineer boots or top hat and tails. Most gals i know appreciate guys who make an effort and have the confidence to express their tastes and character with their clothes.

besides, women are expected to put effort into their looks for men, why shouldn't men make the same effort for the ladies?

That's why I've changed my mind. A few gals in school commented on my suit's, so I figured, wow, maybe it's because I feel more confident in what I'm wearing.

Nailed it there, Derek. :eusa_clap
And consider yourself fortunate to be surrounded by young ladies
who appreciate your sartorial style.
My school required short hair; an earlobe to collarbone clean shave;
and a tie tied to full mast---all subject to daily inspection.
And all guys, no girls. :( lol

I'm not exactly bubbling and friendly right off the bat either. I get accused of being stuck up but truth be told, I've always been really shy. and now I'm still shy and not interested in getting burned again. that and I don't care to bother people if they're not interested in talking to me lol
