I just searched eBay for Spats, and came across a pair from WWII, but since I'm from austria, I can't even look at them..... This came instead:

Dear User:

Unfortunately, access to this particular category or item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in your home country. Based on our discussions with concerned government agencies and eBay community members, we have taken these steps to reduce the chance of inappropriate items being displayed. Regrettably, in some cases this policy may prevent users from accessing items that do not violate the law. At this time, we are working on less restrictive alternatives. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you, and we hope you may find other items of interest on eBay.

Thank You.

I think it's a bit odd since they belonged to GI's. Why could this be illegal? I don't see no point in it, don't you think?

That is very odd. Who would have thought spats are so controversial?

As an aside, p.m. me if you are interested in a pair of military spats. I have two or three pair I am looking to sell or trade. :)

A friend mentioned that due to the laws against collecting nazi artifacts in Austria and, I believe, Germany some auction/commercial web sites have flagged all items from WWII. Neither of us has confirmed this with ebay as it has not affected any of our items of interest the 30s or 40s - mostly civilian clothing.

Naama,

I had the same problem when I used the Internet Explorer. Yes, it has to do with the German law. Now I use the Mozilla Firefox (English version is important). You can download the Mozilla Firefox via the internet, this will allow you to have a look at all pages you want to.
