Ok, I want some honest opinions here.
This Fuzzy Olive Stetson was given to me by a fellow member, which I was totally honored because it was his father's. He said it, and another (Champ) didn't fit him and thought I would like to have them, of course I was thrilled.
He said I could do what I liked with them, as long as I didn't sell them.....I would never do that, but I did do a mild alteration to the band that was on it.

I found a Black Pugaree that I had laying around from another hat and put a thin band of grosgrain, (pewter) right over top of it, and swapped it with the original matching band that was on it.
I like the way they look together, the thin ribbon over the pug, but I'm still not sure if I like the way it looks with the overall color of the hat.
I thought I'd post some before and after shots to get some opinions here. [huh]

I think it looks pretty cool. kind of city chic. the original was nice but much dressier in my opinion. The new style I could see being worn with any hipster outfit or dressed up. nice job!

Hi Bolt,

I think the ribbon change idea is fine, I much prefer the new one, but I do not like the colours - I really think they clash with the hat's felt.

The puggaree looks like dark grey or black, which does not look bad with the felt, so I would suggest you exchange the thin ribbon for one in another colour more in harmony with the felt, let's say a golden yellow, green or beige tone. I would believe this would work.

My 2 c, anyway!

I agree with you Torp, it was the only color in the thin ribbon I had, so I went with it. The Pug is indeed Black.

I like it

Sorry Torpedo, I'll have to disagree with you on the colors he used.
IMHO Black and gray will work with other any color, bar none, since they are both neutral colors. I think the hat looks very fine as is. I would not change the ribbon colors. The only other colors I would try on this one would be a combination of brown with either tan or a copper shade to complement the brown. This lid has a unique color that will only go well with shades of black, black-gray-white, or brown along with a complimentary color possibly with a red-brown blend such as copper or something in the brown-white-yellow color blend.

Congrats on a job well done Bolt!

BTW: I also like the idea of a pug on this shape of hat. It really looks sharp and is reminiscent of the late 50s to 60s era.

Bolt, I think you're on the right track but the train hasn't yet reached the station. That hat keeps saying Wide Ribbon to me. I'd try a 18 ligne (or wider) base ribbon in the darker color with a narrower ribbon in a lighter complimentary color on top. I think Stoney's suggestion for color combinations is right on.

Bolt...

anytime someone asks "does this look dumb" i am always ready to agree with him. however, in this case, i think the hat looks very cool . . . especially with the black/grey band.

I really like the look, but I think the gray is wrong. Maybe if you could find a thin taupe to replace it with it would solve the clashing problem.

Otherwise, it's really cool.

Ok, is this any better?

I took some great advice from all of your input. Thanks guys. :eusa_clap
Today while I was out and about with the Mrs., we went into "Michael's" craft store, and I found this really unique ribbon that I thought would match perfectly. It's kind of tan with dark brown pinstripes.....what do you think? [huh]

I think it's a vast improvement. I'm gonna leave it as is. Thanks everyone. ;)

It looks great

The trim ribbon that you chose adds some style to the hat. It is a less formal look than the Black Gray that was preciously used. I think you've done a fine job of taking the hat from OK to exceptional.
