Documentary idea on this culture

I want to throw it out here & try to gather some feedbacks on a potential documentary I may make one day soon.
I always loved film making but have not tried it in any way myself, I studied acting & participated in a couple of students project & that’s as deep as I waded, although my father is a well-known documentary maker & presenter/TV host (& I learned nothing so far Lol).
Anyhow, I have been having this creative juice running in my head, & thought why not make a documentary about it. The topic is “the curious subculture/niche culture of vintage leather jacket”. The angle will be running a parallel storyline between simply describing the industry to leather jacket manufacturing (which I’ll systematically interview the makers), and featuring personal stories of some of the consumers (meaning any of us, if I can have your permission).
As all of us know, we are not a normal bunch! We have all pondered “who needs so many jackets?” “Why do we buy them/sell them?” “How did we get into it?”, “is it a mid life crisis? Addiction? Some romantic escapism? Fetish? Or something intrinsic about the product itself that’s just plainly fascinating?”

Of course, I will leave it as a documentary & keep the storyline open ended, & leave it to the audience to judge.

The obvious investor’s question would be: who cares? Who is going to watch this topic? What’s the social significance?

Granted, if I have a lot of money, I can make all kinds of docu about subcultures, & maybe make them short for YouTube distribution instead of Netflix, but Netflix seems to be sponsoring a lot of weird subjects these days.

So, any thoughts are welcome.

Deleted as it is not properly expressed and causes too much pre-mature controversy. But just hear this, makers are not robots that scan a Sears catalogue & sew together jackets, makers are very much humans who are highly emotionally involved & have a lot to say about their crafts, this is conviction, love and pride, it is part of the picture.

I think this is a great idea. Besides leather jackets I love motorcycles and guitars. It's easy to find books, magazines, and film regarding those hobbies, but there isn't much out there regarding leather jackets. I'd gladly pay money to watch a film about this industry.

I feel I'm coming out of my leather jacket addiction at 40 (which I now am). I just want to keep 2 or 3. 10 years ago I was chuffed to have a collection; now I'm just sorta sheepish...

This needs to happen. Start a Patreon or something, I'll support!
Doing it now!
One day I will be able to say: I couldn't have done this without the love and support of the community! I'm excited. Ken just gave me the blessing.

So, here in CA we have Rin Tanaka, Bates, Cal Leathers, Johnson....
Oregon: Langlitz
Seattle: Carrie and GW
NY: schott, Lost Worlds
Mass: Vanson
Where are Steve and Dave Sheeley?
Mark should be on the list as well as Diamond Dave.
Anyone have Detroit Histories?
Maybe Dinerman in Montana....

At Inspiration we could grab Himel, and Fine Creek.

Hop over to UK for Lewis, Aero, Goldtop...

If we hit selvedge run, we could get Thedi and White feather...
This is going to be epic!!!!!

Where is headwind?

Along the storyline of makers, I have the option to spice it up a bit by showing the antagonistic positions among the makers (read: LW/BK vs Aero, Eastman vs Aero).

Maybe it's just me, but i would limit myself to talking about the jackets themselves rather than the drama surrounding the makers.
If you decide to include the drama it will be very hard to to stay impartial and not take sides.
Between the ELMC conspiracy theories on their blog, the Goodwear deposit scam, the BK "I WILL SUE YOU", the weird rambles of LW, there is too much room for this to get weird and cast a shadow on what we care about, the jackets.
