I really know a lot more about felt than I do about straw, and I really don't know much about panamas, but I saw this one up on the bay, it's my size, and as there were no other bidders, I snagged it.
The brim looks really wide in these shots, I'm not sure how big it actually is, but it looks pretty wide. The model, according to the description is the Rancher, and it was sold in Amarillo, TX.

so- panama experts- what'd I get?

You know, I was doing some thinking...

and feel real bad about that sweatband needing replaced...

Why don't you just send me that hat and I'll make sure it gets to a good home...

:D

Dinerman, since none of our Panama experts have responded yet, I will give you my humble opinion. Looking at the inside number of circles and the weave pattern I would say it is a Cuenca weave but it does not appear to have been commercially bleached. Therefore if treated properly, it should last quite some time. I like the style. I think overall you did real well.

I am glad someone got this. I was afraid it would go wanting for lack of a ten buck bid.
I was thinking about bidding myself until she revealed the size. But I am glad it went to you, Dinerman. The straw looks to be in great shape and the sweat issue doesn't look too serious. I feel certain, however, that these photos were taken under incandescent lighting which tends to "warm up" the photo. When you receive it I think you'll find the hat to be far paler than these photos would suggest.

It's a beaut, Dinernan.

I like that big brim. And the ribbon is a nice size too.
You need a nice fat Cohiba and a snifter of something to
go with that hat.

Break out the white linen suit!

well- I got back into town today from Alaska, and found that I had been refunded on this hat. Needless to say, I'm going to fight that.
