Just scored this early MA-1, can someone tell me what the 2 buttons on the front are for? The pics are the sellers.

There are a bunch of guys expert in nylon in these parts as should know. I don't think, myself, I've ever seen this before. My best guess is that it's a field modification for clipping the oxygen mask to when not in use - c/f the patches that were part of the B15 variants for the same.

That was my first thought. Doubt it could be for anything else other than clipping equipment to the jacket.

Ya know, I can’t say for certain, but there was an attachable fur hood that they used to have available and I think it attached via buttons...to something.

The MA-1 would seem to be too light for a big hood, but who knows?
