I have been off the forum for a while and just logged back on. Wow! What a great thread this turned into. Thanks for all of the great info, pics, experience sharing!
FWIW, Cal-Leather makes and sells their new jackets with the belt loops and a hand-tooled duty belt, with the customer’s initials on the inside of the belt. Beautiful stuff. These are the same heavy duty L.A.P.D. design that they’ve always made, but I don’t know if they’re making jackets for police departments any more. Most likely the majority of these gun belts will never see use as a gun belt. Since my initial post, after trying a duty belt on my old Cal jacket I agree with what has been said about it adding some support to the kidney belt part of the jacket and helping with a snug fit without having to fine tune the laces so much. However, without a tank saver it’s a no-go. Perhaps on a bike with a more upright riding position it would work better.
