we are living in one of the great transformative periods of human history... political, religous, and societal standards are colliding and it is unclear as to the outcome... a titanic migration of peoples is also occurring the likes of which has not been seen for a thousand years... I have no idea what is going to happen but change is difficult...

We are facing global deflation, possible dare i say as Dudley did last week,,, negative interest rates as FED policy, and a deconstruction of China's economy.... A friend if mine who is an economics professor told me he was reading the Dow could reach 8k...

As with past slowdowns, one major factor is whether or not they will be able to prevent credit unavailability.... I simple don't see how they will be able to this time. Do you?

Things are locking up already. I work for a large Industrial company and our orderbook is down by over 20% for the first four months of 2016. Not a good sign as we have not lost any contracts, it is that our customers are just taking less of what we sell them.

I took The Journal of Economic Perspectives, Fall 2015 from the office Friday evening for train reading after the day's market tumult,
and found an article listing Fed post-crisis available tools for raising interest rates amidst excessive reserves.
Chinese statist economics and the Fed's concern with inflation in deflationary times, blind central banks, and a long overdue correction
reminds that Marx's philosophy denied Thomist and Heglian idealism and the priority of mind or spirit over materialism.

Looks like a deflationary slide, which is good for consumers in the short run, but spells bad news for everyone in the long run. Economies are cyclical and no amount of wishful thinking or philosophy will change that. Any attempt to mitigate the cycle will only make it worse.

For anyone who missed the CNBC Squawk Box panel this morning, it was an audition for Saturday Night Live....

My favorite was the Coca Cola CEO who came on wearing a gangster fedora and a trench coat and spoke on how "not everyone needs the same level of education" and how "there is a war against sugar". Even Becky Fields, the most progressive of the CNBC bunch was like WTH?? And I'm over here thinking to myself, "ya'll better be careful; he's already got your houses and cars surrounded back at home"...

After the last couple of weeks, I would say not for now! I got another call from a contractor, that said he was sorry, but he does not have the time to come out and give me an estimate on a job I need done. This has been going on for a month now, and most of them can't get enough workers either. So much for high unemployment numbers, that some experts quote!

Thanks!

But, it looks like a flight-jacket. ;)

We have 2016 and Cola-drinks are so much outdated by modern nutrition. Sugar itself, which is probably not less dangerous as cocaine, too. Friends, the 90's are over. ;) He knows it, surely.

I didn't until today. Almost called it "an upcoming depression" when talking to an older woman today. If the stocks keep dropping like they have been, people are gonna be jumping out windows soon.

Ohio: Restaurants and bars, gyms, libraries, churches, gatherings of more than 50, all banned or closed. My wife is a chef at a high-end restaurant so we're in trouble. I've also lost about 1/3 of my income from all this.
