Do you mix eras when dressing vintage?

I would like to mix and match more, but I just can't do it! When I wear vintage I go all out. It just doesn't feel right otherwise! I will mix say 30s and 40s as long as it looks right but I wouldn't mix eras that are far appart, like 20s and 50s.
I do admire people who pull it off though!

I love to mix as long as it matches and looks "right" together. When I take photos I allways have a 40s do even if I wear a 50s dress. On the other hand I don´t mix 40s or 50s hairdos with the 60s, as those just don´t really match. I also wear 40s stuff with 50s Acessoires and the other turn around. ;)

20's hair & makeup Great!

I read here I think that it is more important to wear a style of makeup that suits you than just for the sake of been period right.
A 20's bob and the makeup . Well I think it great you considering wearing then both, and I would not be concerned if you mix period of clothes either as apart for the nice ladies here I bet not many ladies would really be able to tell these days all the different style, and you do see s many worn today on the streets , styles that is.
I cannot wait to see you all make up from the 20's good for you, i am a little sweet on that period. do you go for the bee stung lips?

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who mixes and matches. For everyday wear I find it's so much easier if I'm not trying to be in 1 era from head to toe,but like some of you if it's a special event then I go all out for the particular era befitting that occasion.

Paul-This is the makeup look I emulate. For me,it's a look that suits evening wear more than daywear.I don't think it's a pronounced bee stung look, but I'd say my lip shape is small in width and medium in fullness which lends the right feel. For day,I'll stick with the 40s girl-next-door look.

Oh that look is really nice, I cannot say why I love the look so much may be because not every one can pull it off or wants to , even just for evening and you do not see it, one the other hand when a lady can it makes it look even more special in my eyes.Enviouse.... yes LOL :D

I love the look very much and wish the ensembles of the 20s suited my figure.
Also,I'd like to say thank you for posting your link in the "20s-40s cute haircut"thread it's a great reference.

I do love the whole 20s make up thing - I'm naturally very pale anyway, and have green eyes with very dark hair and straight eyebrows (Irish), so incline towards that look anyway. Beestung lips I leave mainly for the full getup, though - and I'll often take a paler shade of lipstick for day to day office wear, even though my natural preference is for a darker shade.

I went out the other day with a friend who is a Viking reinactor - he hadn't seen me since the new 'do, and when he saw the bob and the smokey eyes and lipstick, he blurted out "you've gone Goth on me!" I responded with "no-no-no - think silent era film!"

You're fortunate you have the lip shape to carry off the dark lipstick, Rubyredlocks. Make up experts are always telling us darker shades make our lips look narrower, but I don't see that being a problem for Louise!

My day-to-day look is mostly early-mid 1940s, but I often throw in 1930s and 1950s clothing into the mix. My hair is always 40s style regardless of the outfit, as that's my favorite way to style it. However, I do experiment with makeup quite a bit, and will often wear my eye makeup 1950s style with an otherwise 1940s look :)

Another "mix and matcher" here! When I dress vintage, my clothes are usually '50s or early '60s (though I do have a few '40s pieces), while my hair and make-up are almost always early '60s. I'll still do the early '60s hair and make-up even if I'm wearing modern clothes, because it's just what I love, and I'm also always wearing my vintage cat-eye glasses. (I wouldn't be able to see without them!)

I have so little vintage I mix and match by necessity. I'm just getting started, and I love the '40s best, but that's not what's easiest to find. I mix in modern shoes, a mix of makeup, '50s circle skirts...etc. And I tend to have '50s eyebrows - the Jean Harlow look will never be mine.

My hair isn't really vintage at all yet. I'll post updates, though - I love so many different styles.
