This thread has some of the best one-liners ever...I love you all for making me giggle this morning!

As for the topic at hand, I never have out in public...that's not to say I never would...it would just take a lot of nerve on my part and practicing being graceful avoiding any chance for being clumsy! I do when I'm sleeping though - especially in the summer when it's so ungodly hot that you can barely breathe. As for going bra-less - um, no. My girls are meant to be tamed and not free, unless I'm lounging at home or sleeping!

I remember being lithe and slender... I never wore panties then! Only garter belts and stockings! Of course, I also never did (and never do) wear pants, jeans, or shorter than knee-length skirts, so nothing showed. And never a bra! I was such a bad girl, and such a hottie... sigh.
Alas, I am now more than ten dress sizes bigger, and now I have the VPL to worry about - so for daily use, it's pantyhose with nothing under them (duh - that's why they invented them!) and for special, open bottom girdles, with nothing under them. There really isn't room for anything under an OBG, and nothing shows, so why bother? I can't wear garter belts any more, as a big girl they just make me too lumpy.
Under a bias cut gown, Jean Harlow wore nothing, always - if it's good enough for Jean, it's OK for anyone!
Bias satin gowns are the most demanding of the figure though - I would say if you really need that much support that your underthings show through, it's not a good look for you anyway.

I love this!! :D :D

For me its when I sleep mostly, but I do feel wierd wearing panties when I am wearing stockings & garters, so I could see that it would actually be easier to go without at those times. Also someone mentioned that corsets & panties don't go well with eachother, I could imagine!

I've done it twice in public, both with jeans on. My husband thought it was so naughty, but in-a-good-way naughty. ;) Me, though, I just chaffed and was relatively uncomfortable, being rather, erm, curvaceous, as it were. I've gone to bed that way, and that's rather comfortable when it's one of those hot, humid summer nights.

Now, I've worn skivvies under my panty girdle, but I found that it would pinch along the leg holes, with was extremely uncomfortable, so I don't do it anymore. I'm still trying to find an open bottom girdle at a reasonable price, but the cheapest I've found for the one I want is about $48. :( Not to mention the cost of outsize FF stockings that'll fit my legs, which I've only found at $20+ a pop.

My grandmother told me a hilarious story the other day about wearing french knickers and an OBG. A woman she knows, during the war years, was strutting down Main Street and had the button come off her knickers. They slipped the entire way down to her ankles and did she scramble to pick them up? Nope. The lady surreptitiously kicked them off into the gutter and kept on going. lol

Just a reminder for the menfolk that we -know- are reading this...

The Powder Room is for ladies. It's okay for gentlemen to post in the Powder Room so long as it's tasteful, the exceptions being lingerie links and links that no "gentleman" has any business visiting (yes, that's a little subjective). Men who post lingerie links will probably have purses and/or shoes thrown at them, followed by having their posts summarily deleted. Scofflaws will ultimately receive a knuckle-wrapping admonishment via PM, unless more severe action is warranted. Ladies deserve some privacy in particular threads and this right to privacy will be respected.

For my entire high school career I only wore pants when it was that time of the month. Always a bra though. Even now I prefer to go pantless if I can. Honestly I thought more people did it.

What surprises me in rereading this thread is the mention of sleeping in underpants. I was always told growing up that that was unhealthy -- so I never did (unless circumstances required). Has it now become the cultural norm?

I only go commando in jeans.

See that freaks me out, in skirts/dresses I do, but not trousers. I really don't feel comfortable with it somehow. I'm British though and you know what we're like ;)

Sometimes I wear underwear to bed, other times nope. I never wear pyjamas or anything like that, perhaps a vest. Depends how I'm feeling I guess

If I wear underwear to bed it's only because that's all I'm wearing. As in, instead of jim jams I'm wearing underwear and a shirt.

Tee hee, Miss Bella Hell! The only thing I wear to bed is my two favourite boys...

... a pair of these fellows, named Morocco and Karlos :p They're nice and warm!

Oddly enough, I think it's common. I never did but many people I know do. A good friend of mine even wears a padded underwire bra to bed. She said that it's because she didn't want her breasts to sag as she got older? Sounded silly to me, I always thought gravity was inevitable and she only has a b-cup chest anyway! Phooey. I don't even wear bras in the daytime (I'm so flat-chested that it's not necessary for comfort or support) and I can't imagine anything more uncomfortable than only taking the things off to shower.

I go commando occasionally but since I'm normally in slacks I normally don't. I thought that the idea behind panties was to protect either one's modesty on a windy day, or one's clothes. That's all I wear 'em for.

I don't sleep in underwear for the same reasons others have stated; Been told it was unhealthy but I wouldn't dream of going out without them on. I finally found some granny styles that weren't too unattactive in Føtex that were only a size too big in a EU38/40 I use EU36 but I like that they go to the waist and have enough legs to cover the top of my thighs so that no lines show and they're cheaper than the seamless Sloggi pants which I don't find all that comfortable. It's an odd cut and shape.

Sometimes I think I must be the only woman in the world [besides mom an grannies] that wears nightwear... I get cold real easy, so I have to have something covering my back. Of course, when it's really warm, the nightwear comes off ;) Now, mind you, I always make sure the nighties are really cute and feminine, because even when covered up, no harm in making sure you look good, right? :)

Gosh No, you're not. I wear night gowns or lounging pants with a tank top. I can't sleep naked, I have a child in the house and I also get cold easily. Underwear is reserved for leaving the house, if I'm staying home, I don't wear underwear unless I have guests or I'm on my monthly curse.

I like wearing little camisoles in bed - not a huge fan of jim jams (but when I was in France the other week they were advertising Coco Avant Chanel and I LOVED the jammies Audrey Tautou is wearing in the poster - cream silk men's style pyjamas with black piping - gorgeous!).

I have never and would never go commando - I imagine it would be a bit uncomfortably (and drafty!) and I would be so worried about climbing stairs/having a spill/or the one time your skirt would split or something!

I am usually commando in pants. In skirts below the knee as well, though sometimes with tights or pantyhose. In skirts above the knee I typically wear panties or hose or both. I usually wear a bra to go outside as I am fairly chesty.

I only ever wore panties to bed when I was in the military. (and I didn't go commando during the day either!) and I pretty much hated it it was just a civilized concession to being in one room with 80 other females, wasn't exactly gonna sleep in the buff.

I wear bras to bed sometimes but only when I want the support because I feel tender.

I don't understand how commando could be uncomfortable? I mean, I understand not wanting anyone to SEE but it doesn't FEEL uncomfortable? No disrespect to ladies who feel differently intended.
