Do hats get women?

I was thinking about starting to wear a fedora but I think I would be kind of nervous when I was wearing it worrying about what other people think. Do you guys get compliments from the ladies when you are wearing Fedora's? I need to change up my style cause I am very sad and lonely but have some scratch to spend on a new wardrobe so I was thinking why not go old school! Thank you, The Flo Dog

I was worried about what people might say or think when I started wearing fedoras, but I'm older so I don't care as much. I get alot of appreciative looks and comments. I don't wear suits to work, but I do wear dockers, dress shirt and a tie almost every day. I wear my nicer hats when dressed like that, and when I am in jeans and a polo shirt, I wear one of my "beater" hats. Still fedora's, but not in as good overall shape. I have yet to hear a negative remark. Maybe some good natured ribbing from people who know me. I tend to think that younger guys probably have it a bit harder pulling of this look than us older guys.

Love tonyb's avatar hat. Not a beater, but I could see myself wearing that ALOT.

Sounds like you need to build confidence. Once that is achieved, you will wear the hat and not the other way around, which will draw the chicks ;)

I think you're really on to something here, 'dog. Why, it just now occurs to me that it's all about the hat, you know? I mean, there ain't a one of us here whose path ain't lined with recumbent maidens, right? And about all we have in common for certain is the hats. That's gotta be it.

Hats are inanimate objects, entirely lacking any cognitive abilities. Thus, a hat cannot be expected to "get" women. Then again, I don't "get" women and I've been known to ponder on at least three occasions, so I suppose I could be wrong.lol

Honestly, wearing a hat's not going to get you women any more than not wearing a hat's going to get you women. Confidence gets you women, and good looks helps. To illustrate, the brother of a friend of mine was a real good looking guy, but more than that, he had no shortage of confidence. He bet us that he could pick up girls even if he was wearing something completely ridiculous. He put on a tank top basketball jersey, a flannel shirt over that, cutoff blue jean shorts with the pockets sticking out the bottom, knee-high 24-hole oxblood Doc Marten boots, and not one but two straw cowboy hats, one on top of the other. We went out to a bar, and damn if he didn't manage to pick up girls while we just watched.

I think the important thing to know is, hats don't drive women away!

The rest, for good or ill, is still in your hands. However, since hats are not overly common right now, it may serve as a low-effort conversation starter.

Hats only get women that get hats & guys that wear them!
My wife oftem comments on guys at horse shows where you are required to wear a western hat into the arena. She says some guys shouldn't ever wear a hat outside of it because they just don't look right wearing a hat. Now, these are almost 100% 4 inch brimmed, cattleman creased western hats. I'm sure some of these men would look better in a different style... [huh]

Confidence get women more then anything else. If they think your simply peacocking they may ignore you, if you look confident though and it's your normal look it will probably be an opener.

"Nice hat!"

Every woman is looking for something a bit difference, but confidence is defiantly the first step. She isn't going to be interested if you act like your afraid to talk to her beyond the very moment you meet, then they may think it's nerves, and consider it kind of cute, but it gets old really fast. Make eye contact, stick your head up high, and go for it. Oh and don't talk about yourself to much.. rookie mistake. If she wants to know more about you it will probably be after the first few dates.

I overheard my wife last week telling a friend that she was SO glad i switched from baseball caps to fedoras. Who knew? Now I think I need 3 new ones. I guess I better start saving up....

After a certain age, baseball hats just don't cut it (unless you're at a baseball game, I suppose).

If they don't dismiss you offhand, the "peacock" advantage of having a good hat or a good suit will definitely make you stand out and at least get a conversation going. I'm no don juan, but i've gotten far more women talking to me when i'm clean cut and well dressed than i did when i was dishevelled. And if they didn't in self, so be it.

Hey Flodog,

A feddie (and its brother, the trilby) will certainly get you noticed by the ladies. Don't feel self-conscious about wearing a hat. I don't. I did, once. For about ten seconds after I bought my trilby, but that was it. They feel great, the look great and they're very stylish.

I went to the annual Vermont Maple Festival Sunday and wore my Fed IV. I had a woman start a conversation with me. She was bending over backwards trying to talk to me about hats. On another note, I also had a man tell me "nice hat" as he walked by. I believe wearing hats can be a real ice breaker.

My old Biltmore, just angers up the blood. Woman love flat caps though. They're a lot easier to wear too. A fedora, or the like might be viewed as pretentious if worn on a first date.
If it's part of your everyday ensemble, then you could pull it off. Just remember your not married to that thing, so if feel like you want to leave it at home, go with your gut.

Cheers man

In my experience, the Akubra Federation IV definitely adds something to my appearance. Around my campus, I sometimes get complimented by girls walking by on it. I think this is evidence that something's definitely working. :)
