As one gets older one gets to the point where you could give a F*ck what other people think. an if they something stupid to me I say something offensive to them. About sticking something where the sun doesn't shine.

"Hargh, hargh, where'd ya get yer stupid hat, mister?"

"Last kid that took the P*ss was wearing it."

Never fails when delivered with the right growl. (Hell, in the Olden Days, the accent alone was enough sometimes. :lol: ).

True, in England the flat cap was associated with the proletariat but not with servants as such. But it was not exclusively theirs. I recall a comment by a maker of luxury cars with a sporting bent. Some criticized his cars for being too low, but he replied that when driving you only need enough headroom for a flat cap. This was in the twenties or thirties. So the buyers of expensive sports cars were not too good to wear them.
