Oooh, The Frock is such an amazing site. Everything on there is out of my price range, but it's so much fun to look at! I particularly love their celebrity wardrobe pages.

I happened upon Dita last week while she was in the midst of a book signing for her latest work at a local bookstore. She really is a beautiful doll-like creature.

"a set of three exquisite little flip books, nestled in a gorgeous flocked keepsake box and featuring Von Teese’s most popular burlesque performances, as photographed by Sheryl Nields"

I agree. I got to see her live do her Martini glass dance in denver a few years back. She is beautiful and so very professional. None of the other performers held a candle to her.

A young Dita

I was half surprised when she posted that on her twitter, but I'm glad she did. A great example of we all begin somewhere. She was 19, and that was her first corset.

MY first corset wasn't that pretty... :( lol

I just bought Stripteese the other night. It was expensive 39.00CAD but it turned out to be 30% off, i grabbed it and held it against me like a baby, i couldn't wait to throw it open. I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth it, but it's just so beautiful, she's so beautiful. It really is a wonderful book to just LOOK at.

I would like to go to one of Dita's performances, but I don't think she ever comes to Oregon to perform.

I'm glad to hear that her new book is worth purchasing because I've been wanting to buy it but was unsure if I should, and the price is a little high.

Am I the only one to think she sounds vacuous? Really, if you read some of her interviews, you'd think that lovely clothing is all there is to the woman...
It doesn't help that her profession offends my feminist sensibilities, I'll admit. However, I that I could forgive that if she had more to her. As it stands, she comes off as a painfully shallow individual.

I'm sure that there is more to her, but keep in mind, she is playing a part. All of her interviews are designed to promote the clothing or her shows.

I don't think she sounds vacuous. In my opinion, she sounds intelligent, and she is quite witty. I was also surprised with how soft spoken she is. She even appears to be shy in some of her interviews.

Also, the people conducting the interview want to hear about her clothes and her shows, that's what they're interested in. Actors are interviewed about acting, musicians about music, so naturally she's interviewed for what she's known for.

To each their own :)

I agree. Don't worry Sylvanrealm, she's a smart cookie. I was a member of her site for awhile and reading some of the things she wrote on there, oh man! She's freaking hilarious! She's alot more acerbic when she's not on the publicity trail etc. I don't make a habit of admiring idiots, she's no exception.

I just wanted to say that Dita is one smart cookie. If she wasn't, she wouldn't be where she is today. I finally broke down and joined her website. There are so many more interviews then what you are able to find on youtube and such.

I was lucky enough to see one of her shows before she really stopped preforming them in the US. It was back when burlesque and the art of the tease first came out. My boyfriend at the time and myself drove up to NYC just to see her. She preformed then did a meet and greet book signing. So I bought the book and got her to sign it. I must say that was the best experience of my life. Well, not entirely but you get the point.

Agreed. She was on the morning radio show I listen to, promoting Stripteese and she was incredibly witty and extremely well spoken.

I don't mean so much that she comes off as an idiot. She clearly had business smarts to get her where she is, agreed. She does have a good sense of humor and is well-spoken. And yet.... It was one interview in particular that really got to me. I wish I could find it. I'll post if I do. I really got the impression that to her, appearance is what *life* is *about*. I realize her career revolves around that to a great extent, but...surely there are things more important than that? Maybe she seems too self-absorbed and materialistic. [huh] Maybe I am alone in that opinion.
