Quite right, i do bust out the compact on a regular basis. My mum always said it was acceptable and alluring, just to quickly powder the nose and check the lippie, not do a full on face, that's just plain wrong!

I always wear gloves, that has some very good results with the chaps, especially if you take them off very slowly and nonchalantly. (I just re-read that, haha, i'm not talking about in the boudoir, just generally when one is out and about).

A lot of the old fashioned tricks still work on men, even the very modern ones. Women miss that these days.

Yup: the older the trick, the better the result. ;)
(since nowadays.. girls are not so witty when it comes to elegant trick)

Agreed. Women nowadays think the only way to snag a man is by wearing shorter and tighter clothing, and less of it. The concept of leaving something to the imagination is well, gone.

I suspect her apron is made of the most exquisite hand-worked chantilly lace, and the feathers in her duster were plucked from the tails of free-roaming peafowl from the grounds of the Khedive of Egypt. And dirt wouldn't dare land on her -- it bounces right off, like bullets off of Superman. (I say this out of sheer jealousy, of course.)

Oh my goodness, this made me howl! Lizzie, your wit....I wish I could bottle it for myself!

My mom tells me putting on your lipstick anywhere other than in the bathroom with the door shut is obscene or, at best, tacky. That is what powder rooms are FOR, apparently.

It is not as high a sin as leaving your hairbrush out in the living areas, but you just don't do it.

You preferably never chew gum at all, but if you must, you must NEVER chew it while wearing lipstick.

I am going to have to find it in one of my Etiquette books from the 40's, but Miss Etiquette says it's ok to primp your lips at the table because you need to look your best. Going to have to find it for the exact quote.

My mom always told me not to touch up lippy outside the bathroom, but my grandmother always did it at the table (without a mirror no less, that woman was amazing) and said that in "her day" it was perfectly acceptable.

Lolita, I want to see what you find in your etiquette book!

Well, I admit to being completely common and uncouth then, because I touch up at the table AND chew gum whilst wearing lipstick :)

I chew gum while wearing lipstick but it makes my mom terribly sad that I do, so I don't in front of her.

I have to go to the bathroom to do lipstick/powder though. I'm secretly afraid of what everyone thinks otherwise. And it smears. It just doesn't work.

Somehow I suspect "Dita says its okay" would also not get past my mom. lol

(go to 8:25 to see wht Emily Post had to say on the subject of "touching-up")

..here's more:
Grooming at the Table
"In most circumstances, it is more polite to excuse yourself and put on lipstick in the ladies' room than to do it at the table. The exception is when the restaurant has an informal atmosphere and you're among friends, in which case you can apply the lipstick quickly. What you should avoid is a primping routine--no compact, no powder. And then there's that never-to-be-broken rule: Whether you're a man or a woman, don't use a comb at a restaurant table, nor should you rearrange your hair or put your hands to it wherever food is served. Using dental floss at the table is a major never-ever. Believe it or not, some people have no qualms about doing something so private in public."

:)

Back to Dita...
"I like the double standard," the softly spoken star says, coyly. "I"ve always loved the idea of not being what people expect me to be. I"m not an exhibitionist that"s not why I do what I do. Day-to-day, I"m actually quite shy. I like my hemline below the knee. I would never bare my belly. I"m a little conscious about how much cleavage I"m showing. I feel like I don"t really need to show my body, and I like the mystery about not showing it I prefer the idea of someone wondering what"s underneath the dress."

:D My mom doesn´t appreciate me wearing make up at all. Neither does my dad.

My mom doesn't hate it and even admits that I'm usually fairly tasteful, but thinks its mostly a silly interest. She's of the school of thought that your "beauty regime" should be brush your teeth and if you feel like going crazy, use some cold cream. She can see even clear nailpolish or clear mascara at twenty paces.

My dad outright honest-to-G-d thinks I don't wear makeup. He said that the last time we were on the phone, which totally threw me. I generally wear at least 3 products to go outside, which I said.

He replied, "oh, you must wear it pretty well then. I haven't seen any granny blue eyeshadow or that glittery stuff the young girls like!" lol

My mother used to jab at me all the time for my make-up, but then I became a make-up artist lol Now she wears a little here and there when she goes out, and even asks me for advice. As for my dad, I don't honestly think he notices!

I've just received my nails, kiss and signature ! I've never used press on nails but I think it might be a nice alternative to damaging acrylics

I love Dita, I hope she does book signings when her beauty book is out.

Let us know what you think of the nails! I'm anxious to hear how long they will stay on.

I haven't tried them out yet but I think they'll do really well! especially if you wear them for a night, remove them then wear them again and so on. I really wish they were more pointy though

The box says they can actually stay on for up to 10 days! But I find you need A LOT LESS glue then what the instructions suggest. I want to be able to take them off at the end of the night and save them for another night and I do think I will be able to do that. They stayed on the whole night=]

Viola, I have to agree a little bit. I think that doing hair in public is very tacky, nobody should know how hard it is to make your hair do that. As far as lipstick goes though, I have a few really cute ones that I never put on, I just carry around in my purse so people can see me putting them on.
...is that tacky? I may not be the best person to listen to.

I know this was an ollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllldddddd post in this thread, but I wanted to quote & repost it in case anyone missed it. I never actually believed she wore L'Oreal True Match foundation, but it is clearly visible in the photos. lol

I'd love to know what MAC colors are in all of her palettes!
