Was just thinking about you bud! I was actually thinking that this shot reminded me of a shot I have seen of you.

I'm not the best one for describing a hat but to me the lines of the crown and the brim shape look perfect , maybe flowing would describe it?! especially the side view!

My Disney

Here's the Disney I got on Ebay a few months ago. I love it!

It had the bow in back, I guess a very post war look.

Congrats on the hat. You have a Disney, a Buick, and a bouncing baby boy. What else could you ask for?

Well you guys, I finally got my hands on a Disney. I have been looking at getting a Disney for quite some time. I had heard that the felt is really good.

Firstly let me show you the photo from the listing of the "Porkpie" ;)

Ahh!

Pretty bland... (to the naked eye)

Now, take this home, steam and brush it, get rid of the feather and hey presto:

Isn't it great when we can spot an opportunity beyond a bad listing! Look at the diffence in coolness between image one and the rest. We are lucky to have that information.

Now, questions:

When does this hat date from (price tag states $15)

Can anyone elaborate on Art's point about these lids being aimed at the younger market?

Thoughts...?

You have to ask if a porkpie was aimed at the younger market?! :p Disney ads are sort of few and far between in my collection but I have one to share.

Yours sort of has this look to it. The ad is from 1953.
The ads goes to the appeal to quality but it has its share of "gray hairs" in it. Then again by 1953 the hat industry was in decline so catering to the older hat wearer was a better bet. They are still being a bit daring with a few of those hats pictured for the time. The shorter brim at the top, thinner ribbons and material ribbons were not exactly as traditional as the second one from the bottom of that ad.
A Disney is a great hat and you found a nice specimen there. Enjoy it.

Regards,

J

Both very nice Disney's, gentlemen. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I have a Disney straw from the 50's and it's a very nice hat to wear.

I believe I remember watching this one on OFAS, but alas it was the wrong size for my head. Beautiful hat, and the rear-set bow is a nice detail that sets it out as different from the norm.
