Yes, no, no, yes.

I'm not a tailor, but my understanding is that vents can be closed pretty easily but that there is usually not enough extra fabric at normal seams to create nice looking vents.

As to the issue.... my understanding has always been that the most formal approach is to have no vents at all; thereafter minimal side vents. Seems to me rather a minor detail, though, if you're happy with the suit - and I certainly wouldn't have paid an additional £200 "upgrade fee." Wear it well and enjoy it if you're otherwise happy with it - if other people think less of you for such a trifling reason, they're the ones that should be embarassed, not you.
