Differences in wear -- Aero CXL horsehide vs CXL steerhide..?

Seems like lots of pics of their FQHH, which is understandably popular, but not as many of the steerhide. Just curious if anyone can speak to, or post pics of, the wear over time on the CXL steerhide compared with the HH. I assume it would have the same fairly rapid evo typical of CXL leathers, but just wonder if that's the case. Thanks.

I have many of both

IMHO CXL Steer has the edge over FQHH ... it develops more grain and softens much quicker.

I know those round here have a bit of a love affair with horsehide ... but steer IMHO is a better hide in CXL. My Aero Barnstormer and also my Police jacket are CXL Steer and they're noticeably softer than HH Highwayman and much easier to wear. SB Drifter is also CXL Steer and it again is more flexible and softer than CXL FQHH. I don't know why but CXL steer has dulled more noticeably than CXL HH as well.

Don't discount steer .... it's amazing .... but then there are few really poor hides from Horween

Both are great, period. It's all about what you like, the jacket, and how you prefer it to look/wear.
I've both in jackets, belts, boots and I love both equally.

I've had 4 Aero Highwaymen; the first 3 in FQHH, and the last in Steer.
By far, the steer is more beautiful. It has developed much more
graining than any of my FQHH jackets ever did. It's also super soft and drapey and just
a comfy joy to wear. My FQHH jackets always felt like cardboard in comparison. I just don't know
how to explain the popularity of the FQHH. I mean, it's nice, but the CX Steer is so much nicer.

I tend to favor the steer as well. They are both very nice and it does depend what you want. I've found as plumbline and oneeyeman said, the steer softens and grains up much quicker. The FQHH jackets I've had maintained a smoother and more uniform/subtle grain. I think the steer is very slightly heavier and thicker but that could be all in my head. Truth be told, it's very hard to tell the difference between the two and you can't go wrong either way!

I've long heard the steer breaks in more easily. I have a couple of Aeros in a midweight steer (as thick as the CXL FQHH, but softer from the get go - comparable to that used in the higher end Schotts), but it's not the CXL stuff.

I'd throw into the mix the fact that prior to its exposure via accounting, the success of the Storse scam by an ex-Aero employee suggests that there isn't such a huge difference betwen the two as people can always spot it. End of thre day, it's all about personal preference.

I was just about to make the exact same point. People with steer somehow didn't notice it wasn't horsehide until they were told about the switcheroo. There's a message in there somewhere.

All good info here, esp with regard to graining. Would you all say that the underlying brown shows through in the black steerhide to the same extent as the horsehide?

I've had moto steer jackets that were at least as difficult to break in as HH.
Every hide is different, and so are the tanning processes. There's just no way to say this one is that one is. Most of us speak from experience, and really, just get what turns you on. What we think isn't relevant. Either is a winner...

I know thus is an old thread, but can anyone listening speak as to how well the steer molds to your body? Horse hide forms to the wearer very well in my experience with my Bronco A-2 in Vicenza. Steer, I've come across differing accounts on this forum. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any fit pictures of you in your A-2?It's just that I can't imagine any leather 'molding' into a torso/body shape.I have a heavy steer jacket with nice corrugation on the arms but I just like to think of it as a good-enough fit all round.

I don't have any recent pictures actually - and not at home just right now. When I say 'mold to your body,' I don't mean perfectly, like a body suit or anything. I just notice that when I put it on, it just seems to 'pop into place,' if that makes sense. I'm interested in the steer, and I know break in takes a while, but I want a jacket that starts to take on my shape. Does that seem off base? Thanks.
