There is no doubt that our ongoing discussions of these and other vintage hats have created a greater demand than in the past. This is an inevitable result of increasing awareness and, hopefully, increasing the wearing of these classic styles as daily apparel.

I'm all for increasing the wearing of hats, but it's nonetheless unfortunate that the result of this increase is exhorbitant prices on ebay, rather than an increase in quality and quantity of production hats.

I just have to comfort myself by remembering a discussion of what vintage hats cost when they were made. Many really good hats would have cost too much for me to afford in 1940 also. If I lived back then, would I have found myself saving up for a $10 Whippet like I saved for a $170 now?
