Inspired by Feraud's thread about making a vintage-style collar, I've decided to try to convert a modern dress shirt into one that will accept detachable collars.
I have everything I need except plans to guide me. Does anyone have a vintage detachable shirt and would you be willing to photograph and post pictures of how the collars attach to the shirt? It would be much appreciated.

At the front, the tunic shirt has two holes for the front stud to pass through, instead of a button and buttonhole.

At the back, there's a horizontal stud hole for the rear collar stud.

The rear hole can be all the way through the neckband, such that the flat plate of the rear stud rests against the back of your neck when it's done up. Or, which is better, the neckband can be doubly thick at the rear, and the hole just goes through the outer layer. This results in sort of a pocket or flap arrangement, like so:

The collar band should be about 1" high all the way around, which is lower than the neckband on most collar-attached shirts. If it is wider, it may stick up above the stiff collar--especially at the back.

This post by Mitchell does a good job of showing the shirt and collar in the fastening process: http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showpost.php?p=471364&postcount=47

Let me know if you need more photos, and I'll see what I can do.

Interesting, thanks for the pics. I've detached the collar from a shirt as described in Feraud's vintage-style collar thread and will soon sew the collar band back up where I took the collar off.
I don't have a camera so I can't post pics of my progress. :(

How does one go about finding the studs?

Update:
I was on Fall break last week so I didn't get anything done on the shirt.

I did obtain an original unused detachable collar to help guide me. I will also be using the collar of an original WW2 mustard wool shirt as a guide to create my own vintage-style pointed detachable collar.

My neighbors have a sewing machine so when I use that I'll be able to update you further.

Here's a scan of half of the paper pattern I made using the WW2 wool shirt as a guide. The collar is roughly 2.5" wide at the tip. I'll make a wider one once I know how to make collars proficiently.
