Thanks for the compliment on the comparison photos... Regarding the tan hat... It is a beauty, but it needs a little TLC!

Here's a wider angle photo of the tan hat...

Stitching Along Edge Binding

I'm not sure if it's very noticeable on the photos, but the major difference between the two hats is the stitching running along the edge binding.

The tan hat has 2 stitches that cut through the binding ribbon, while the grey hat doesn't have the stitch running through the center of the ribbon (which causes the puffiness that several people have noted).

By the way, I'm sure this question has been covered in ealier posts, but has anyone ever cracked the codes under the sweatbands? The numbers must have meaning to someone out there.

Same hat...

PS if ALL the pictures in this thread so far are of the SAME hat, then I believe it is NEW old stock, and the later pic's are not showing as well. Great hat.

Hey Andy... Thanks for the advice over the past couple of days. I can tell you that I actually have 2 of the grey hats with orange edge bindings, one is 7 3/8 (as shown in the photos of the reorder information), and the other hat is 7 1/2. The larger hat is the hat shown in the first set of photos at the top of the thread. I didn't post additional photos of the 7 3/8 hat because both hats are in the same condition, except for the pronounced curl of the brim on the back of the 7 1/2 hat.

I can also give you my 99% assurance that all of my hats are NEW old stock. The only variations in condition will be those caused by the Gods of proper hat storage. It is theoretically possible that a customer wore the hat, and returned it, but it is my understanding that the State of Maryland does not allow businesses to re-sell used hats, without a special permit. (The same rules apply to selling used underwear, for good reason, such as those discussed in the thread on sanitizing vintage hats... very itchy stuff.) So, it is possible that this hat is gently used, but it's not very likely.

Thanks again for your comments, and I look forward to any additional advice you can offer.

With a huge welt like that, it may be a soft homburg. (They do exist) With the brim rolled up, does it curl like a homburg?

I'll let you know for sure when it arrives but for know I'm going to go with a no on this one... (for now)
