Deluxe Crown Brush?

Hello,

I have seen advertised hat brushes known as "Deluxe Crown Brushes", described as "Brushes for the crown of your best hats. Soft bristles, excellent cleaning".

Anyone here does know about them? Do these brushes serve a specially useful or remarkable purpose? That is, are they worth having in addition to the normal brushes?

They are required for hat purists, and worth having.

Yes I have one. Works great in dusting the crown of the hat. The "regular" brushes are curved for the brim and around the base of the crown. The "crown brush" is designed for whisking dust from the top of the hat, without pressing hard to spoil your hand block. The bristles are much longer and therefore softer on the top of the hat.

I got two bristle brushes (by M&F Western Products, Inc. Sulpher Springs, TX 75482) from my local western store. Curved wooden handles. One with light bristles for light colored hats, the other dark. They do a fine job in my opinion. I got them after reading in an old text about the damage that used to be done to people's hats by doormen who would use stiff brisk brooms to brush a hat in the hopes for a tip. These brushes are soft enough to cause no harm.

I also got a couple of those rough orange sponges (same manuf.) that work fine prior to brushing to remove major dust buildup.

For general cleaning this system seems to suffice, however, some of my finer vintage hats have felt that has almost a sheen to it and I've wondered if better brushes (or user technique ) might shine that finish up even more.

I have a pair of the brushes for light felt and a pair for dark; brim brush and crown brush, all purchased from the same vendor. 'ssential gear.

I think that it's more about the dust that comes off with the hat.
The bristles are probably just colored so that the user can easily tell which is which when reaching for one. Black dust on your nearly white hat would be no fun at all.

It is definitely more for the marker aspect. I have made the mistake of dusting one of my silver bellies with a brush or sponge that had been used on black hats and it leaves a dark trace. Some blacks are still dyed with a grease and transfer of that to a light hat is really a bad thing.
