I am a Beauty newbie,a s well as a FL newbie, and I'd like a few things cleared up. (With pics if possible.)

What does to "set" ones hair mean?

Can a perm get me these hair styles?

Ok, I'll have a little go at answering some of them:

What does to "set" ones hair mean? Just means a non-permanent method of curling your hair really. So if you put rollers or pin-curls in your hair then that is 'setting'. You can use setting lotion or mousse or just dampen your hair and leave to dry or nothing at all. It's quite a loose term really.

What are hot sticks? These are hotsticks:

They are just heated rollers really but they are like bendy sticks that you wrap your hair around. I prefer rollers personally.

What is setting lotion? It's a liquid that you can apply to your hair prior to setting in rollers, pin-curls or rags that helps to hold the curl.

Brands? Most of us swear by Lottabody which is made by Revlon I believe.

My understanding of what actually happens when you get a permanent is this: Your hair's structure is sort of like little ladders. The setting solution breaks the rungs in the ladder, and they reattach according to how they've been bent, giving you that "permanent" wave effect. Eventually this comes undone. That's my 2 cents on the subject, back to the people who actually know useful stuff. ;)
