"In WWII Russia, Jewish refugees band together into a brigade that hides in the forest, ambushes Germans and survives until war’s end, eventually 1200 strong."
I saw this trailer before There Will Be Blood and I was excited because Liev Schreiber is in it... I think he's an underrated character actor. Really looking forward to it.
I finally caught it!
Fabulous depiction of Jewish Belorussian refugees fleeing the holocaust & establishing themselves as partisans in the forest. Specifically the Bielski brothers who hold together this camp. The largest partisan group of the war.
Some interesting 'lord of the flies' type moments as they build their 'Otriad' or partisan brigade.
And the tension of fighting Axis soldiers, while the russians think of them more or less as jew bandits with a common enemy.
Theres a great feeling of atmosphere as some scenes are subtitled & all the actors seem deeply immersed in the depiction of Europeans enduring the war.
Yeah I knw I haven't been around... I've actually been busy doing....yeah you geussed it, Russian reenacting and planning other events and such. This includes plans to portray soviet partisans!!!
I just saw this last night. It's a great movie. It was more violent and intense than I anticipated, but it was really good. It's difficult to call the film "good" when the subject matter is so sad. I definitely recommend it!
