I took a couple more shots. The first one is outside- our shed outlined in the big colored lights. It's only been very recently that I was able to get past white-only outdoor lights, but I have embraced the vintageness of large colored bulbs! I have found boxes and boxes of these very cheaply at yard sales...

In our rec room- I have a large aluminum tree that would look great there, but it's just too big to walk around and not really kid-friendly!

I'll have to see if I can get the little lights to show up without the flash.

I've always wanted a vintage train set for the holidays--so cute.

I'm totally jealous of you folks who have real fireplaces. :(

Here are some of my vintage decorations.
Here is the front of my house (it's really raining here so this is the best angle I could get without getting wet). The snowman in the window is one of those plasticy melted together things. I don't know the official name of them but we call them "popcorn decorations". I have quite a few of these of different holidays. And the string of lights was my grandparents and I believe it's from the 60's. The balls are filigreed with pretty flowers with red lightbulbs.

leaette, you have lots of lovey decorations. I'm rather taken with that string of lights. I must say I've never seen outdoor ones like that before. Something new to start searching for.

This isn't strictly golden age but I came across this gingerbread house today (I am doing work too, honest!)

:eek:fftopic: I've always wanted to make this geodesic dome gingerbread house from Mother Earth magazine--so random!

goldwyn girl: thanks for the compliment! i just went outside and took a closeup of one of the balls on my outdoor lights. it's all plastic. and white plastic chain connecting the balls. the pointsetta are plastic too. i have NO clue how old these are, my guess is the 60's? who knows. it belonged to my grandparents who aren't around anymore and my dad doesn't remember them so he couldn't help me out. it was in their basement when we were cleaning the estate out.

Sled pullers who didn't make the cut!!!
Must have been some tasty Christmas dinners, tho!

LOL- there are eight of them on the wall, too (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen :p ). I should find a red nose for the lone antelope and call him Rudolph- my son will love it!

Leaette- I've seen a similar strand at an antique store but smaller, presumably for inside lights?

Very impressive--the mantlepiece and wood panel/mirror are quite distinctive.

Thank you! I believe this was used as the dining room originally, but due to the fireplace I've turned it into the living room. The woodwork in this condo is a big reason I knew this was "the one". As a friend of mine said while looking at the plate rail and mantle in this room "Well, you can't buy that at Home Depot!"

Thankyou for posting the closeup, they are even more fabulous. I definatly will be keeping a look out for lights like that. They are probably the only string in existence but that won't stop my quest.

I took this a couple of years ago at my old pace. I had taken all the nice ornaments out, and they were sitting in the lid of the big plastic container they're stored in. The lid was just sitting on the sofa, and I took this shot. You can just see the lid in the corners. Anyway, I use this picture as my desktop on my work computer during the holiday season. If you really zoom in you'll see the three panes of the bay window, and the light bulbs of the floor lamp, reflected in the shiney balls. You may even see me taking the picture. (I love finding the picture taker in shots with reflections). Anyhoo, I love this picture:

Mom said these were Grandma's. Added them to my decor today.

My grandmother had very similar-looking figures, 4 Christmas carolers. I'll have to ask my dad what era he thinks they're from. I guess I'll inherit them someday, as my sister has zero interest in things like this!
