Oh my goodness, this is sad news. Rutger Hauer, one of my favourite actors, has died, aged 75 after a " brief illness". Dammit, dammit, dammit...

When Blade Runner came out, I was fifteen, and man did I want to be like Roy Batty. Not Dekker, not the Edward James Olmos character (cool though he was), but Batty as portrayed by Hauer.

Who will promote Guinness now? So many famous actors end up on British TV in adverts. Currently the most annoying avert is that which portrays Harvey Keitel, in full evening dress, selling car and other insurance.
Did you know that the late Mickey Rooney would come to the UK, in his dotage, to appear in pantomime?

A fews days late, American voice actress, Russi Taylor, best known as the voice of Minnie Mouse & several characters in 'The Simpsons', died on the 26th, aged 75. Funny enough, she was married to Wayne Allwine, (until his death in 2009) who was none other than the voice of Mickey Mouse.

Oscar winning American documentary filmmaker, D.A. Pennebaker, died on the 1st August, aged 94. Among his historical contributions to American culture & politics was the immortalization of the young Bob Dylan in ' Don't Look Back' filmed in 1965. He adopted the 'cinema vérité' method of filming, handheld cameras & lack of narration.

Hells bells.

Peter, it was a magic carpet ride for one who was born to be wild. It's been good to know you. I'm sad for your passing but glad to know the shiny side will be up for you from now on.

James Leavelle, the detective who was handcuffed to Lee Harvey Oswald as he was shot dead by Jack Ruby has died at the age of 99. Leavelle died Thursday at a hospital in Denver. The former Dallas homicide detective was handcuffed to Oswald as he was led through a police station basement on Nov. 24, 1963, two days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Ruby, a nightclub owner, stepped out of the crowd and fired a fatal shot at Oswald. The moment was captured in one of the most famous photographs of all time which showed Leavelle in his white stetson reacting with shock.
