Former big league pitcher Fred Gladding passed away this week at the age of 78. He wasn't particularly notable, but he was hip before there were hipsters. Should be appreciated around here.

Former major league infielder Lennie Merullo has died at the age of 98. He was a shortstop with the Chicago Cubs from 1941 to 1947, whose long life earned him the distinction of being the last living man to have played for the Cubs in a World Series. His passing leaves only six living men who played in the prewar majors.
