I don't know if this belongs here, as he was not a famous person or anything. However, I lost one of my best and oldest friends on Sunday.

So sad to hear that, Tom.
It's always an incredible shock when a good friend dies.
I've been through that a number of times.

A couple of days ago an acquaintance of mine (whom I hadn't seen in a long time) was found dead in his apartment.
He was discovered by another friend of mine who is still in a state of shock.
Seems that he died of cardiac arrest at only 34 years of age.

Thank you, everyone. It's been difficult losing him. We were always together, went to school together, worked together, spent much of our free time together. It's left a big void in my life without my best bud.

OMG!!! Dick Clark has passed away at age 82 of a massive heart attack.
I know, it seemed like he was about 800, but he was only 82. So he was only in his 20's when he started American Bandstand in Philadelphia. I'm not sure what year the show went national (probably 1957) but I started watching it in that year, and have fond fond memories.
Ah, me. Aloha, Dick.

I grew up in the Philadelphia area with Dick Clark & Bandstand. Back in the shows early days it broadcast out of Philadelphia, live, 5 days a week in the afternoon. We in Philadelphia got an extra half hour of the show before it went out on the network. My mom always said that Bandstand was the best babysitter she ever had. Mom would put me in the playpen in front of the TV and I'd be all set. I'd hold myself up on the side of the playpen and bounce up & down to the music. My mom could get then dinner ready, clean the house some, etc. while this kid was occupied.

I was really disappointed when the show went to the west coast and once a week. I never watched as much after that.

I hope they do a fitting tribute to him this New Year's Eve. It's been years since I actually watched the Rockin' Eve show, but just knowing that it would be on and would show the ball dropping made the night.

It's amazing how Dick Clark managed to stay relevant to all generations right up until the end. I'm 53, it's hard to believe that he was actually a year older than my father!

Tom...I haven't been in the lounge for a few days, please accept my belated condolences for your friend. One of my best friends of many years died recently. He was a good buddy with whom I had many adventures on our motorcycles in our younger days, the kind you can't talk about in front of the wife & kids! I had always thought that when we were older and our kids were grown and out of the house that we might relive some of those adventures (the milder ones anyway). But it was not to be. It's a cliche, but they live on in our memories and we can be eternally grateful that our lives were enriched by knowing them.

It's sad that Dick Clark has passed. He hardly aged and I kinda thought he'd live forever. I can't believe he was a year older than my Grandpa, he looks 20 years younger than him!

Thanks, OR. It's been a tough few days. The wake was hard, the funeral was harder (I was a pall bearer) and his son's Mother asked me to be Anthony (his son)'s Godfather and to be part of him growing up. Teach him the things Jesse would have and such. I've also been comforting his Mom. It's tough filling in for him, but I know he'd want me to do so.
