I'll be listening to his albums tonight. I wanted so badly to go see Andy Williams in Branson over my vacation last week, but it didn't work out. I said "Well, I'll go next year." I'm very sad I'll never see him perform, but he's in a better place, singing Moon River with the Angels.

When I "attempted" playing guitar as a kid, my first recital in front of people - family - was "Try To Remember". My Mom still talks about it. Probably was pretty bad, but for some reason, she still fondly remembers it. Lovely song...

My beloved Grannie Erna slipped away peacefully and quietly in the middle of the night Monday. She lived a long 96 3/4 years, was an integral part of my huge family, and helped shape me in to the woman and mother that I am now. She was a first generation Norwegian in the States, and was so very proud of her heritage. She taught me to make family recipes that her mother brought over from Bergen as a young woman. She also taught me to crochet 30+ years ago, and I've been able to make that skill into a home business.

In her lifetime, she saw so many things. She was born in 1916, when the only ways to get around the small fishing village where she was born and raised were horse and buggy. When she contracted infantile paralysis as a side effect of measles, the closest hospital was a fishing boat ride away. She went on to work as a house maid at Ft. Columbia, Washington in the 1930s. She married my Grandpa Chuck in 1936, and sent him off to war when The States entered WWII. She raised my mom and my two aunts as a single parent while Grandpa was held as a POW (as a result of being on Corregidor/Bataan) for 42 months. She lived for 46 years after she lost Grandpa.

She went on to have a successful career as a head housekeeper at a huge hospital. She was an avid gardener, baker, and crocheter. She was a Sunday school teacher, church secretary, and care taker for many family members over the many years of her life.

But what I will miss the most about Gran is the twinkle in her eye and her sassy wit. She was one of a kind to me, but I know that I have her blood in my veins and I am a bit like her. I am proud of the legacy she left me, and will be sharing that with my little one as she grows up.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Babydoll. What a wonderful tribute to her. She sounds like she was a fantastic, strong, courageous lady. May your memories comfort you at this time.
