Director Reza Badiyi, most famous for directing the opening sequences of the original Hawaii Five-O and The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

The man was brilliant and episodic TV of the '60s and '70s is far more interesting because of him.

Not many people outside Germany may have heard of Vicco von Bülow, better known as Loriot. He was a wonderful comedian, cartoonist, film maker and satirist with a keen eye for everyday's oddities and absurdities - and he turned his observations into some of the most wonderful sketches. He had been with me all my life and gave me many laughs and - quiet, ever so quiet - smiles. Vicco von Büllow died on Monday, August 22 at the age of 87. When I learned about his passing on I felt a sting in my heart. He'll be sorely missed.

Thanks for posting this. As often as I have seen this scene, I still have to laugh. Only, this time my laugh turns into a cry for the first time.
We'll miss him! There'll never be one like him.

Wow...I'm really glad - and I mean it - that you like his sense of humour.

Who said Germans had no sense of humour

Loriot once said something along the lines of "Of course the Germans have a sense of humour, just like any other people. It's just that they place it on a different scale. With the Germans, the comedian is at the bottom - while the tragedian is at the top."

Of course he said this at a time that was much different from today. Things have changed. It was Loriot who taught the German people to laugh about themselves.

Have one more. Enter...The Noodle!

So true. I really loved - still love! - his subtle sense of humour. He was never obscene, always gentle. And right down to the core of it all at the same time. It makes me very sad to know that he's gone. The world will be a little emptier without him around.

Captain George Hunt, who died on August 16 aged 95, sank more enemy ships than any other British submariner of the war, commanding patrols that were considered of “unsurpassed” daring and brilliance.

DSC and bar, DSO and bar...amazing. Thanks for the article.

I just found out yesterday from a friend that Jon Lundberg passed away early last month. He sorta mentored me when I first started collecting vintage clothing almost 20 years ago. He owned an Haberdashery near Berkeley and before that an antique guitar shop in the 60s. He told me whenever I go picking always look for the Oviatt's label.

No! NO!!!!!!

Jon Lundberg was a god of vintage menswear. He was an inspiration to Art Fawcett and a host of other dealers. It was a tragedy when his store burned down in 2000 ... but this news is so much worse. R.I.P., Jon.
