Sadly an era is coming to an end. Songs are not composed like this anymore.
RIP Paisan.

I just heard this on the radio this morning. I had never heard of Vic Mizzy, but he wrote the famous theme song for the Munsters TV show, among many other popular tunes. Seems like a pretty cool guy, and God bless him, he made it to 93.

If I might gently correct you, he wrote the theme for that other horror comedy, THE ADDAMS FAMILY (and GREEN ACRES, to boot).

I liked this quote from the LA Times obit:

For Mizzy, who owned the publishing rights to the THE ADDAMS FAMILY theme, it was an easy payday.

"I sat down; I went 'buh-buh-buh-bump [snap-snap], buh-buh-buh-bump," he recalled in a 2008 interview on CBS' SUNDAY MORNING show. "That's why I'm living in Bel-Air: Two finger snaps, and you live in Bel-Air."

Not long ago I heard what was probably Mizzy's first radio broadcast, a 1937 appearance on the "Town Hall Varieties" segment of Fred Allen's "Town Hall Tonight." He appeared as the leader of a very snappy Hoosier-Hot-Shots-type novelty band, playing lead harmonica. They introduced him as "Victor Mizzy," but the sound and style of the music made it pretty obvious this was the Green Acres theme song guy at the very start of his career.

Mr. Martino lived about 15 min. down the road. He died in his kitchen while cooking broccoli di rape. A storybook ending for all of us of Italian ancestry.
TomD.

Now that is the way to go; doing something you enjoy.

Who else is left from that generation? I guess only Tony Bennett and Jerry Vale.

R.I.P. Soupy. Another link to my childhood gone. The world is a bit sadder today. The cream pies will be flying in heaven tonight. Best, Sam
