John Hughes drew a very accurate bead on a group that is hardly ever laughed at 'seriously': upper middle class white Americans. The characters in his films are close replicas of my neighbors, classmates, friends and enemies -- circa 1985.


When cultural historians of the future dig for a glimpse of well-off '80s suburbia, they'll turn to John Hughes's movies.

You had one strange experience of the 1980s. I never knew people like that---in the same categories but acted nothing like that in reality. :eek: [huh]

I don't know where you get your information but this town hasn't been that way since before WWII. :rolleyes:
Most of those people ended up moving out to Modesto, Tracy or Stockton after WWII.
We certainly didn't see many trust fund kids preaching anarchy but being lost if they couldn't find the right gel for their hair that is for sure. ;) :p
