Thank you! It was a bit of a gamble. Found on ebay, but the size stated had me concerned. It was stated as being a 6 1/2, but it (fortunately) fits like a 7, which I can wear. A little snug but works.

Okay, I'm stumped on these two. Crofut & Knapp "Gridiron", and the Schoble "Sportex".

Through research and aid from Alan, the C&K looks to be 1930s, and the Schoble 1920s. Only info on the sportex model that I can locate is from a 1924 newspaper

Hi , I've just acquired my FIRST Stetson and would be grateful with any help that could be given with Model , dating etc.
It was made under licence in England - I think from the labels in the 50s but I can't find a comparable hat anywhere .
I've posted a few pics that may help ( Just received it so it needs a bit of shaping ! )

Thanks , up until now I've been more a traditional English hat man ( like the Lock & Co Homburg in my avatar ) but I saw this at what I thought was a silly price ( under $20 ) and had to have it
I was fairly sure about the date - it was more the model if anyone has any input .

Here's a fun Stetson I didn't win. I was watching just for the novelty:

• Oilskin last drop liner (40s-53?)
• Maple leaf on the sweatband crest (later 50s?)
• OPS tag: 51-53!

The price was $20, $5 more than a regular 3X I assume for the hat's larger size.

Can anyone hazard a guess at to vintage? I’m thinking late ‘60s.

No idea of what, if anything, is hiding behind the sweat.

I think earlier 60s, as Stetson started rocking black sweatbands towards the latter 60s... but I may be wrong.

The hats I've seen with that liner and sweat have had the keyhole tag - so I'd go with later 50s in line with the other guy over at the Homburg thread.

and I find out that Bolthead has one of these,
plus that he dates it as being 60s

You can almost NEVER believe a age based on a seller's listing. I've seen crappy modern wool hats listed as "vintage" from the 1940s. This one is definitely from the later 1950s. Pictures of the tags under the sweat and the price tag if they are still there would pin it down.

I just made an offer on this hat. It’s far too small for me but I just want to own it for a while. I know it’s old, much older than any of my other hats. Any idea when it was made?

It will be a wall-hanger and a touchstone.

I was going to joke about seeing if I could size it up to 7 5/8 but then I thought better. This is a hat that I’ll just be the custodian of for the time that it is mine to care for.
