At your size you should be able to find some excellent hats at some very reasonable prices. With a little patience, you can find wonderful vintage felt in the smaller sizes (below size 7). I’d bet you could find several in the sub $50 range on eBay right now. Good luck.

If you're worried about hats you may want to steer clear of the other portion of the site that focuses on clothing, specifically leather jackets.

I finally bought 2 this year and have 1 more I want to buy and my friends are already going: how many leather jackets do you need?

They're all black but different styles. Also, as a woman, you can't have a leather jacket that is both fitted with just a tee and will work with a hoodie, you have to have 1 of each so that's 2 right there

I can't wait to see if anyone approaches me and recognize that I'll be rocking a Vintage 1950s Stetson Open Road (I ended up buying it off Alan). I live in a very metropolitan city so I'm thinking the chances are low but you never know. I get stopped a lot for wearing a vintage sports bomber from a team that no longer exists, but it's more just because it's the sports brand, I don't think anyone knows it's an original 1960s I scored at a vintage sale, although you can kind of tell it's old because they just don't make the jackets and details the same way. Woops we've totally hijacked this, but I did mention Stetson in this so it counts!

Same applies to guys regarding tee vs hoodie fit. A fellow Lounger actually gifted me a hoodie fit vintage Brooks cafe racer. (He has a great collection of hats too.) Similar to hats, there is a "What Jacket Are You Wearing Today" thread mostly consisting of, though not limited to, leather. There's been a bit of a denim epidemic lately, but leather jackets still dominate that thread.

Well considering you're a woman wearing leather you'll probably be forgiven. You may occasionally see (R)RL, but that's about as close as it gets to fashion brands. It's almost exclusively vintage or higher end repros. But don't worry, just like hats you can learn a great deal from others. I knew squat and now have two vintage and one mid-upper tier repro thanks to the insight and kindness of the forum.

I’m on a cell with a less than stellar signal—having more trouble with pic downloads-sorry if I missed this particular pic. If the hat has the original sweatband and it is taped at the back seam, rather than sewn , it is 1920s or earlier. A sewn seam is indicative of 30s or later.

Hi all, I’m clearly no expert but would love to acquire an OR. The seller says that this one is deadstock 1950s or 1960s but the price on the wholesale tag is throwing me - surely ORs were much cheaper than $107 “back in the day”. Any thoughts? Many thanks

It ain't. When you see the square size tag think 60's as the earliest and if it has US/Metric sizing as well, it's later. That's a modern Stetson box as well. Is 6 7/8 your true size? If so, you're gonna have fun buying vintage hats.

I second that last point! Every hat/price listing I get excited about turns out to to be 7 or smaller when I click on it. I just clicken on an OR today that sounded too good. The seller eas calling it small. Real small.

When I said I went through the 6 7/8 OR's I was referring to the bay. That's the largest market but there is etsy, goodwill, estate sales, antique shops and others. My hats have come from all the above but most from the bay.

If you're 'really' interested in hats you need to explore some of the threads about cleaning hats. I've sent some off for cleaning but eventually learned to do most of that myself.

You'll probably be a bit surprised about the "hand" difference in a modern vs. vintage. I have customs but mostly stick to vintage these days.

I haven't tried to filter it. It was only today that I decided to start looking for it. Like I said, I stumbled into it a couple of times, I believe using a search engine for a non eBay exclusive hat search.
Today I scrolled for a while and opened so many hats in another thread that I won't even get back to all of them.
One of the mysteries of eBay is that your search parameters have to be just right or you never even see some ads. That site seems to catch everything.
Filters can also make you miss things if a hat size is in an offsite description, or maybe just a picture of the size tag.
I just looked at an ad I'd probably try negotiating on if I was smaller than 7 1/8. Stetson Hat with box. It was someone's riding hat, with a chin strap a lot like a campaign hat. It looks OR dimensions, but with only a top crease, and heavier felt. Size 7. It wouldn't be your OR, but you're waiting to see about the 7X, right? And that you're collecting?
The riding hat price is rock bottom, they're accepting offers, and the high shipping is probably because of the box. If it was 1/8 I'd offer, tell them to squeeze it into a small package to cut shipping, then steam it. It would be a unique hat, unless horsemen everywhere have them.
Perhaps loungers more expert than I could offer an opinion?

I got an OR from Alan off here, got a Borsalino vintage but it's not at all grey and now have to reship that back and spend 70$ CAD on all these extra shipping, ugh. Not a great way to end the week.

The filters on that website don't work that well, looks like there is no shortcut to the long scrolling through ebay pages.
