Well, you don't seem too hard to please. Want to go out some time? No guarantees on the above. But I will do my best on it.

Alas, my heart belongs to the man who drank from my glass and has my gloves. :(

Well I have had a host of awful dates in the past but there are 2 in particular that stick out in my mind.

First blind date started off pleasant enough, no attraction there but he seemed intelligent and somewhat interesting. However halfway thru the date he started quizzing me and trying to pick fights with nearly every point of view I had. If I stated the grass was green he was going to argue that it was truly blue. I tried to pick less arguementative subjects to no avail. He then went on to state "You see the world in black and white, I hate that in a person". Um. My advice would be that even though we obviously weren't meant for each other there was no reason to turn nasty. No one likes to be told what they are or are not within 1 hour of meeting someone for the first time. I felt sideswiped and a bit flabbergasted.

The second fellow was a friend of a friend and we met for drinks and later a show at another venue. He slammed 3 whiskeys within 15 mins, drove us to the next place (why I got in the car I'm not sure) and proceeded to smoke up before going in. This was the first time we met. Not a good first impression. Luckily I knew someone else at the show and got a ride home. I was harassed incessantly why things didn't work out by our mutual friend. I said "Really? you don't get it?"

A terrible dating mistake.

Guy I know opens his mouth to take another bite of his food BEFORE he has swallowed the previous chewed food, showing it to others at the table.

He is my enemy, so I have not informed him of this error in etiquette.

The girl who had been shotgunning beers all evening and stood up in the stands at a football game (next to me) and called me a @%! of a #%@! at the top of her lungs before losing her balance and crashing back into several others probably voided her warranty right there.

lol

If I could show you the tears from laughter!

lol

I have many stories (sad to say) but heres my absolute worst and most embarassing one: I had been dating this guy for a couple monts. I was previously divorced and have two kids from that failed marriage. Needless to say, I'm quite young, and look even younger. When my boyfriend decided to introduce me to his parents, he went on to say "She has two beautiful little boys". His mom's face went into a state of complete shock. All she said was "Are they black?" My face fell into complete shock mode, my boyfriend became extremely red, and all i could do is turn around. I walked into another room to get my stuff (hinting to my boyfriend I was ready to go), then I overheard her asking if i was a "promiscuous"(for better term) girl. I have never been more embarassed in my life!

My god...

That's just terrible. I'm sorry just to hear that.

You're not still dating the guy are you?

I briefly dated a rather interesting young lady, a Jewish Ukrainian goth, very elegant and beautiful, highly intelligent, too. However, when we first dated she had only 3 things she could discuss, and in moments of silence she invariably brought the conversation back to these things.

1. Death rock clubs
2. Comic books (cool stuff like Eightball, but still)
3. Folklore (she later got an MA in the topic under Alan Dundes).

All conversations turned to these topics. No other topic interested her for more than 3 minutes tops.

The judge was a good man, and looked at least 65; people of that age are often the opposite of idiots, in my experience. Most people who appear in front of him in his courtroom are drunk drivers, people charged with vagrancy, and general *%$-ups, so when he saw a guy in a suit speaking complete sentences I believe he felt some relief. When he asked me what I did, and I said graduate student, I think this may have impressed him; he asked where and I said Berkeley and his eyes widened; he asked in what subject and I said "ancient history, your honor, Greco-Roman history" and he sat upright.

His generation, the WW2 G.I. generation, was the last generation to have Greek and Latin as part of their regular education (this ended with the wonderful "improvements" ushered in in 1968 when the hippies demanded that their classes be "relevant").

The good-looking wife and tiny baby probably didn't hurt either. Mine, I mean. lol

You are lucky you didn't get the pony tail guy. Whatever the case, I wouldn't worry about it if my brother did something like that. Especially with my wife involved. :rage:

Quite the geniuses you seem to have attracted in the past. :p

There are many things about a lady that will wiggle my wire, so to speak, but nothing more so than intelligence. If a lady doesn't stimulate me on an intellectual level, it's game over. That said, I don't think I could stick with someone very long if they had such a narrow focus of interests, plus not being interesting in conversing about anything else outside her own fortes could suggest she would have been a fairly selfish person anyhow. Been there...

Oh man ..

I thought my mistake was bad until I read this whole thread!!!

I was once introduced to a girl on the internet. We chatted at odd times over a few years online, as well as a few phone calls, and really hit it off intellectually and emotionally. So we decided to meet. Being smart and responsible, we both brought people along to our date and made a day of it in her college town. She brought her two best friends, I brought my best friend and my sister.
Here comes the big etiquette mistake ... I clammed up and only spoke, AT MOST, ten words to her the whole day.

She must have picked up on my charm by some osmosis power I didn't know about, because we saw each other again, dated a few years, and now have been married 4 1/2 years. lol
