Carebear! SOOOO cool! This is how skiing originated. For centuries the Scandinavians used wooden skies to get from one place to another in the winter. Then in 1868 a bunch of upper class British tourists took some sets to the Alps, and a mania was born. But horizontal is the "TRUE" skiing! Many years ago (about 1980?) I found 2 pairs of very antique wooden skis on a garbage pile, waiting to be taken away, in my neighborhood in upper Manhattan. I was only able to salvage one pair, so I took the coolest looking one, and held onto them for years. Finally gave them to friends who have had them crossed over their big stone fireplace in Columbia County NY. ANOTHER category of antique vintage item that people have cavalierly tossed on the junkheap, when they should have saved and treasured them.
Makes me hope we get enough decent snow this winter to go cross country skiing in Bronx Park! Thanks for sharing!
