Christ almighty, I keep forgetting how beautiful CXL is. I know it's beautiful but seeing these pics just remind me how insanely beautiful this leather is...
...and how I don't have a single jacket in it.
The only thing either needs is to be worn. So, has anyone done the HWT with CXL Steer?
What were the observations vs HH?
I think the steer would behave the same as FQHH. I did this to my 30's HB on your suggestion and it did in fact make the collar lay and look better.Wearing doesn't fix the collar .
Seroiusly, if anyone has tried it please share.
FQHH works really well, goat- no way (although cold Water is ok)...Steerhide?
In my opinion the HH grains out much more noticeably than the steer. However there are still panels on both my Sheene and my ThunderBay, both CXL FQHH, that are unmarked and relatively shiny, not a bit of grain is showing. This is a bit disappointing to me as I like the character in the graining. Some, however, like the smooth panels. I think the graining is what normally sets the HH apart from the steer.Never had a steer, does it grain and wrinkle better than CXL FQHH?
So true. Every batch is different in horse or steer.30's HB in Steerhide:

Jacket is about 2 years old here.
I love CXL FQHH as well! Every batch is different, this has to be remembered!
Gorgeous grain on that steer...it's precisely that type of grain that makes me choose steer over horse.30's HB in Steerhide:

"Marbling" is a perfect description for the grain that has appeared on my two FQHH jackets, thanks HD! It is more subtle that the grain I have seen on many steerhide jackets but still quite cool in its own way. What I like is the CXL FQHH 'marbling'. My 2001 shipped Highwayman has that especially across the back of the jacket. Some HH batches seem to offer this up nicely.
I did shape my '30s steer hide HB collar with hot water when new. It worked.
I will post photos as soon as the weather allows me to get some outside pics. Most of the pics I had have unfortunately became prisoners of PhotoBucket.
Wow! I've never had a jacket like that. Amazing.
