CXL Steer vs Horse Flexibility Aero

Planning an Aero 30's half belt. Need opinion on steer vs horse cxl.
Which has the greater leather "give" flexibility??

I"m not sure if I'm answering your question but I've found the CXL steer to soften much quicker than FQHH. Steer can be every bit as stiff when new but doesn't hold on to that stiffness for nearly as long as FQHH. It's part of the reason I've ordered my last few Aero's in steer. They are super similar but after a bit of wear the minor differences do become noticeable. Steer can be ever so slightly heavier as well.

I've compared samples between the CXL steerhide and horsehide. Basically crumpling them like clay in my hands for hours. I simply cannot crumple steer as much as horse. IMHO, steer is significantly thicker and has less "give", while horsehide will turn out softer over time.

They both become flexible, and they both "break in", but as @ton312 states there are some differences in my experience. I've had both (2-HH / 1-SH), and my current preference is for steer (black). I find that the FQHH has less give/ stretch to it.
That said, if you are looking at the Midnight there is no choice!
That color trumps the little things that make the steer more desireable to me.

I have "some" Aero leather jackets. Both in Steer and Horse. I've found what Ton said above to be true.

Interesting, the Cordo is more like my black was...the brown seems more HH-like.

Looking for that black cxl with a little more stretch to it........steer might just be the way to go.

handymike- that black half belt is the look I am definitely after. How old is that jacket and were you the first owner?
Would you say the stretch became apparent after much use?

No, I bought it used. My guess is that it was late-2000s.
The "stretch" is a quality of the hide. HH doesn't have it- even after 10 years.
It's hard to explain, but Steerhide is slightly "spongier" if that makes sense. That's why the creasing is rounder/softer. The Horsehide gets "sharper" crease marks as it is more "dense".
I want to say Rigid, but we use that term to refer to not-broken in jackets.

Not an expert as many others on here but I’ve got a cxl steer in black and a cxl fa hh in brown.

Steer is noticeably thicker and while it was pretty stiff at first with moderate wear it got remarkably soft in a couple of months. It’s hefty but at the same time drapes very well.

After a month and getting drench in the rain once, the hh still stands on its own. It’s not as thick but definitely stiffer.

I must say I got a slight preference for hh as i find steer a bit dull while hh it has that nice shine to it. A matter of taste of course. Also for a fair comparison I think you should compare the same color as brown fqhh has a lot of variation (you don’t understand until you see it in flesh) while black cxl steer is still a great leather but less distinctive imho.

The differences are quite minimal and I think you are right. If it's color you're after in midnight blue there's only FQHH.
Here's a j106 steer and horse side by side: FQHH on the left/all nickel

Either way @sweetfights , a black HB is going to be a perfect daily wearer. Man Christ. Between you and @Hh121 I want one. Again. This place sucks.

Yes to both of you above!
The color of the 2 hides are different. If color is making your decision...
Black is pretty even in my book. I don't like a lot of shine, and after a few years of wear it tends to diminish.

Christ almighty, I keep forgetting how beautiful CXL is. I know it's beautiful but seeing these pics just remind me how insanely beautiful this leather is...

...and how I don't have a single jacket in it.
