Cutting the hammer loop off a pair of jeans

So I finally found a brand new pair of vintage-looking jeans in raw denim for $30, and wouldn't you know it has a hammer loop on it! The jeans are the five-pocket work dungaree from Round-House (although technically it has six pockets plus a hammer loop). Since I don't own a hammer, I'm thinking of excising the hammer loop with a pair of scissors. My experience with hammer loops is that they get caught on things a lot, especially kitchen drawer handles. Plus they are obviously very informal, to say the least. Is cutting it off going to leave ugly frayed ends? Am I better off just leaving it on? Any help would be appreciated.

Unless you can open the seams and do it right, personally I'd leave well alone. I can't see jeans being any more formal for the lack of a hammer loop... ymmv.

A competent tailor can remove the loop without leaving a trace.

Thanks for the replies. I contacted customer service at Round-House and asked them to consider making these pants without the hammer loop and side pocket. I'm not sure they even know there are customers who aren't tradesmen looking for this style pant at this price point.

Update: I heard back from Round-House and they are taking my suggestion seriously. They're going to discuss it internally. Stay tuned.
