Hi regius and welcome to the Flounge.
If you do a search I'm sure you will find lots of Aeros being worn, but here's one of me to be going on with.

Very nice Dav, can you tell me what hide/tan version that is? is it the straight fqhh? Is the colour in the picture very true to life?

Ace;

Good question..........why also don't they list the various A-2s and the Irvin.
Could it be they only want to sell to the U.S. market what THEY want to sell? If so, Why?
I know a lot of forum members have gotten satisfactory or even excellent service from Aero USA, but it seems to me most, not all, of the lengthy waits for jackets come from ordering from the USA site.

coffee out
ISTR reading, either here or on VLJ, that Mark Moye was tired of dealing with special requests from A-2 buyers. It may have had to do with Aero's standard A-2 fit - short waisted and droopy thru the shoulders, which doesn't suit bigger guys (like a lot of us Yanks).

Good point, although since my original post I see that Mark has resumed selling the Veste de Rallye (and other "missing" styles) on his eBay store. This is good news for us Yanquis that want to buy Aero's full range via Aero USA.

Hi everybody!
I just received my Aero B3 jacket, size 46 (seal brown/russet trim). When I ordered it(from Aero Scotland) the delivery estimation was of 3 months but in the end I got it almost a week in advance.
Quality-wise - I must admit it's fantastic, I went speechless when I opened the box and touched it. Quality everywhere. Even if it's my first high-end jacket and there are no other references I feel that this is among top you can get, period. It's heavy, around 4.5 kg, like an armor, I love it. The fur is rich and thick, around 3 cm the length of the hair. One thing that maybe could be better are the horsehide parts, that seem to me quite thin. Does anyone knows why don't they use some thicker hh for them?
Service-wise - it was a very pleasing experience, Amanda was patient and helpful in addressing my concerns and helping me throughout the process.
What can I say?... I'm def thinking of making other eventual purchases from Aero. Especially if it will be available some chrome-tanned FQHH 4-4.5 oz with some "a la LW" finish, very hard to break-in, as I like. Did someone tried asking them for this?

I heard around about less fortunate cases but so far so good, I'm just describing my experience in an objective manner.
If someone needs measurements, pictures, other details just let me know.

Congrat's, but in regards to the HH, it's not supposed to be the thickest hide! You add thick HH to the sheepskin and it wouldn't bend. I know what they use as I got a B3 from them for my son. It's indeed beautiful. Enjoy it and post pics when you can.

What is the thickest leather? Cow?

Cow, steer, goat, and horse hide leather is sold in a variety of thicknesses. Once they are tanned, the hides are split or shaved into into various layers. The smooth top layer with the epidermis is sold as top grain hide and the less-desirable lower layers are sold as suede.

It seems a logical explanation of the leather choice, I must say I am more reconciled with the choice I did. Thanks!

I will make some pictures when going outside these days for sure and post them.

I think you are asking if Aero makes very heavy HH for their jackets.
Yes.. Aero's standard FQHH is one of the heaviest available..but finished differently than LostWorlds HH.

I wonder if it's possible to ask Aero to use some leather finished like the LW one, for the ordered jackets.
As I said before I do not like this easy breaking-in and getting patina of the usual used FQHH and the fact that the jacket becomes too pliable for my taste. I want to look as close to new for as much as possible like the old jackets. I agree to pay this Merc price but to get something impeccable for 30-40 years from now.
I mean the Aero services were top(quality and as interaction which is very important) so far and I would continue to get my business to them.

I could consider Eastman and Lost Worlds(which have state-of-the-art products also) but I read around that they have some communication issues, let's say. This is a little bit frightening since you're paying a ton of money and risk getting something not fully compliant to what you're expecting. In LW case not to mention the custom taxes and the fact that sending by mail this kind of valued items always poses some risk.

Aero get their horsehide direct from horween so unless horween have a top coated horsehide in their range aero probably cant get it.

If you can source your own they will make you a jacket in pretty much any leather you care to mention unless it is from illegal sources such as endangered species.

Thanks for the tip, it sounds encouraging.

It's my understanding that both Aero and LostWorlds are supplied with HH from Horween. However..LostWorlds HH is exclusive to LW. Aero offers several types of weights and finishes of HH that seems specific to their brand. I doubt that they could/would make a jacket from LW type HH...but I could be wrong.

Rest assured, your Aero B3 will last longer than you. I can guarantee that the jackets made today are better than those made 70 years ago. Don't worry one bit. I worry that my son will outgrow his B3 more than wear it out - and he's pretty hard on his gear, unlike me :)

Although I'm new to the custom leather jacket scene, I have been very impressed with my dealings with Aero. Amanda has been exceptional to deal with. I ordered a B3 after she answered all of my questions and she even volunteered to send me some leather samples. The samples did the trick for me. I ordered the B3 in Seal, with the straps in Seal and all of the trim in Brown FQHH. I just didn't care for the Russet they had and the straps that went with the Russet were too orange for my taste. She told me the wait time would be 14-16 weeks. I'm thinking of ordering an Aero Teamster soon. Does anyone have any pictures of a Aero Teamster or any info? I want to get one that fits fairly snug. I don't plan on wearing layers underneath. I haven't been able to find even one picture of someone wearing a Teamster online. By the way, EVERYONE - HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!
