So what's the final consensus- Mark Moye or Amanda?

What are the pros and cons? Sounds like Mark costs $50 more,
but you'd pay it anyway in customs fees. Sounds like they're
both helpful. Thought one or two posts implied faster turnaround
from Amanda?

BTW, anyone know which is warmer, the alpaca lining or
the tartan?

I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a Hercules, but can't
figure out from whom and what lining.

Thanks!

Alpaca is supposedly 5x warmer than lambswool.
It is said to be the warmest wool there is.

Plus the Alpacas are very cute:

If you really like a tartan you can have it over the alpaca
(like done HERE)
or you could ask if someone knows if it works with their
medium or thick tartan, and if so, how warm they are.

The alpaca is far, far warmer. The tartan is very light. Go with the tartan for more year-round use. Go with alpaca if you're looking for a winter-only jacket.

Unless you spend a lot of time in Antarctica, where the alpaca would make for a nice year-round jacket.

(Edit: just saw your location. If you live in Oakland, you may not get much use out of an alpaca-lined jacket. They are crazy warm.)

Thanks for the info on the liner material.

No further comments on Moye v. Amanda?

Truth is, I've been caught by surprise by the Aero
price increase. What are they thinking in this economy,
with the current dollar exchange rate? Given that those of
us in the USA have to buy sight unseen and hope costly
mistakes aren't made, those are some steep prices.

I'll be considering other options before pulling the trigger
on a new jacket. Too bad- just when I thought I'd finally
get an Aero, I might have missed my chance.

I imagine they are thinking that orders have still been flooding in, and costs have probably increased. I imagine they'll still sell some jackets.

Sudden, unexpected, large price increases suck, but such is the free market.

It appears the price increases haven't made their way to the USA eBay listings yet.

As an example, the Highwayman is now 500 pounds (formerly 425 pounds?) but Mark's eBay listing still has it pegged at $675. If you figure $1.60/GBP (as of today, per xe.com), 500 GBP = $800 USD. I do not believe eBay sellers can change the price of their listings once they are posted, until the auction ends. My guess is that the next round of postings on eBay will incorporate the price increases.

So you might not be out of luck after all, if you decide to order through Mark and do it quickly.

Edit: I would also advise eBay buyers to use the Bing! Cashback option to get even more knocked off the price. I used it for my first Aero and saved 30% that way. The current discount is only 8% but if you're looking at a $675 jacket, 8% is $54 ... not pocket change by any stretch of the imagination.

However my understanding is that sellers are entitled to refuse a purchaser without giving any reason. It is therefore feasible that those current advertised prices may be refused and the items re-advertised at a higher price.

Get in quick while you can!

Ace Rimmer, I owe you one. Okay, I owe you quite a few.

Got the Hercules and the Cashback. I'm a much happier camper.

Will report when the jacket arrives.

And Papa M, I'll report if they turn me down... but I would hope
they would take down the eBay listings if they were really going
to change the price.

Papa, you may be right but it would seem like a very underhanded way of circumventing eBay's rules on changing auction details. Under those rules, the seller can generally reduce the price but cannot increase it.

From eBay's policy on editing your listings:

Restrictions on making revisions

The tables below show the changes you can make to your listing depending on the type of the listing, the time left before it ends, and whether you have received any bids or sales.

What you can change:

...

Reduce the start price of your item. (You won't receive credit for the difference in your insertion fees.)

...

Reduce the reserve price of your item. (You won't receive credit for the difference in your insertion fees.)

In any event, based on my dealings with Mark, I would not expect him to act in such an unethical fashion.

feltfan, glad to help. Let us know how it goes! :)

Im still getting the "out of office until the 7:th" -response from Aero when emailing after their closing times.

I also didnt get a response from a mail I sent the 5:th.

Does anyone know if they get these mails?
I dont want to send another one if i dont have to.

Congrats. How on earth did you find the time to read through all of that Cashback information? Scared the hell outta me!

Papa M: At first I had the same reaction, but then it all clicked in place.
Maybe because I have worked in online retail before. The basic idea is:

- MS Live is an email address with other stuff, much like a Yahoo email account.

- eBay (or other online retailer on the list) requires that you start your
product search on Bing.com and search for certain keywords, listed on those links.
So for example, I went to bing.com and put in "xbox". When a listing for xbox on
eBay.com came up, I clicked on it. Now I'm on eBay with a
"cashback" icon at the top of the page.

- Once on the site you want, search for the item you want. The cashback
icon will remain on the page, as long as it's the same window/session.

Then when you buy, after Paypal checkup, you are offered the chance to
open a Windows Live account and get your cashback account going.
No apparent obligation. Takes a few minutes to make up an account name
and password and put in the usual info.

That's not too bad for $58, and possible future opportunity.

Ace Rimmer: Will do!

Nothing prevents sellers from ending their listings immediately (as long as there are no bids) and reposting them with the higher prices. The seller will get whacked with a second set of listing fees, however.

That smarts. I was just getting ready to buy my first Aero. It may need to go back on my wish list.:(

Just want to say that the order I sent the 5:th has been replied to and Amanda says I will get the old prices on that order. Can you believe Aero...this is so unexpected and wonderful :eusa_clap

I was taking for granted that i would pay the new prices.
This really shows how good they are to their customers.

I was really set on getting a horsehide motorcycle jacket from aero, but now i am getting alittle worried. What happens if you get your jacket and it doesnt fit, or an option was left off? Do they make you a new one or are you stuck with it?
