I really should learn to sew.. think of how much money I could save on buying clothes to put towards potential acquiring disorders...plus a full closet. :)

Aww... thanks! :D
I can't though (against the rules). And I'm not doing custom long distance anymore.

Well phooey! I had almost worn my husband down on letting me get a sailor playsuit!

Again, more reason why I should just learn to do it myself, I suppose....lol

Dita just posted a picture of herself in a fabulous '55 Dior Tweed Suit.

I'm wondering if it could be copied if I send the picture to Top Runway... I think I'm in love.

Mwahaha... I emailed the picture to Cynthia and she said she'd be able to do it. I know what I'm getting for my birthday. :-D

Cynthia runs a shop called TopRunway on ebay selling custom made repros, made-to-measure. The fit and make quality are generally brilliant but the fabrics aren't the greatest, sadly. She'll send you swatches of all her fabrics if you ask. I get my basic pencil skirts made by her - £32 each one, shipping included - and they are a perfect fit every time. She made me this suit...

and while she tailored it perfectly, the fabric just couldn't support the shape and it always looks floppy.

Yes, I know what you mean.
I have had custom made a few pieces from China (yes, give it to me..) and while one seller made perfect replicas, with a thin inner fabric to support the shape, most of the sellers made pieces that was probably done in 30 minutes,so to speak.
The worst was when I got this gorgeous coat done, with inner silk fabric and perfect stitching, but the fabric was so awful that it gets this little runs and bumps in it and will probably vanish into thin air in a matter of months..
This is why I want to learn make clothes for myself, full control!

But on topic..maybe you can take it to a tailor and have some fine silky fabric lining (is that what it is called?),because that makes a huge difference.

Sorry to hear that Lenore,i hope things improve for you soon.I can empathise with the no pretty things budget:( thats why i'm looking forward to getting a little bit of money in a few weeks so i can buy a few pieces & have a much needed splurge.I love op shopping but sometimes you wish you could spend more than 5 or 10 dollars on something.
Thanks for the info Miss Hannah, that's good to know about the fabric.

I've been coveting that Dita dress and wondering if Top Runway was going to make it available for purchase like some of her others. Thanks for the info about the fabrics (and the swatches), Miss Hannah.

they also have a website with a email saying to email them with any photo and htey can convo with you if and how it can be done- no need to wait for a e-bay listing to go up.

I know exactly what you mean! But until I get myself organised to learn how to sew, I'm getting a friend to make some stuff for me. I don't think she realised quite what she was agreeing to. At the moment my list is: 2 dresses (full skirt, haven't decided if I want inverted pleats or gores, mandarin collar and gathered sleeves), a skirt and a pair of sailor shorts. She'll be busy for weeks!
