While I certainly wasn't shooting for any kind of WWII German look (!), I appreciate the positive comments on the jacket. I'm still "honeymooning" with it, as Mark Moye said, and looking forward to actually wearing it outside of the house one of these days.

Question for HD

Hoosier Daddy --

The photos you posted above of your "vintage" black Aero jacket, the "as new" shots -- do you have any more recent pics of the same jacket, that show what it looks like now that its been "out of the box" for a while? I can see intricate grain detail and very subtle black-on-black color variances in mine, which I really like, and I'm guessing that these nuances will be more apparent over time as the leather gets broken in. How is yours doing?

My post may be too late, however, if you're really nervous about taking your own measurements, as I was, you might want to speak directly with Aero. I spoke initially with Mark, but Mark didn't inspire confidence and quickly lost patience with me, which was fortuitous anyway because I'm happy I consulted with Aero directly, who had the patience and insights I needed.

I just had a look at Lochcarron's website and their choice of tartans. I've recently ordered a black Highwayman and was also considering getting it lined with Stewart Black Tartan. However, the tartan on their website differs from the Stewart Tartan insoma has put up ... any reasons for this?

His jacket does not show a Black stewart lining. I am not going to go through all 800 or so tartan pics on the site, but I know for a fact that his lining is not a black stewart.

See:

look for this jacket:

Aero 'Hercules'--Brown FQ Horsehide

The lining for that jacket is the "Black Stewart modern", which is how I discovered it. If you review the color lines you'll see its a perfect match.

I trust it is the "Dress Blue" Stewart Tartan variant. Lochcarron makes it, but doesn't have it on the website. Here is a shot:

or click on Steward blue dress here:

however, it looks very nice with the black jacket!

cheers, I've decided to go for the Black Watch tartan now. It looks very nice with a black jacket ... IMO the Black Stewart is better for brown/cordovan jackets.
