Hey all!

I'm having a $1200 sport coat custom made for me by a master tailor and I'd love to have a Fedora custom made in the same material. I do have the fabric available and wondered who offers this type of service??

The fabric is a wool/cashmere blend (if it matters).

Thank you,

Chuck

Unfortunately, close won't cut it, this is a very unique looking brownish red and I'm sure an exact match or a total contrast will be the only way to go.

Honestly, I think you're better off getting a nice felt hat, rather than a cut-and-sew-cloth "fedora." IMHO, such hats end up looking out of place with a nice suit, as such hats are really more of a modern invention, and geared toward the youth crowd.

You will look like your coat is on your head.

Good point, going with a contrasty fedora may very well be a better option - too much matching fabric may not be as good of an idea as I originally thought, even if it were to be banded in a black.

OR, I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS, I could have the band match my sport coat??

I think that jlee is absolutely correct. These cloth hats will look totally out of place with a nice suit or sport coat.

Could be a good option, yes. Definitely, though, with a Fedora go for a good quality fedora in a complementary colour, rather than trying to have one made from the jacket fabric.

Only way this works is with a newsboy. If you are wanting a fedora its best to get a hat works with the suit.

Newsboy would be a good option if you can find somewhere that will make one up for you in your fabric.

I'm picturing a look that compares with those shirt-tie-pocket hanky sets I have seen in discount menswear stores. The ones where the shirt collar has a trim band made of the tie and hanky material. Not a quality look. This also makes the hat maybe somewhat less useful worn with anything but that suit.
The ideas of a nice fedora with complementary color and nice grosgrain band are the best. You see a gent in a great suit worn with a nice shirt and a great tie and he is wearing a nice fedora, that is what makes you look in awe of how he is turned out.

Very good point suitedcboy, having the fedora made with the exact fabric will only be useful with that suit!

jlee562 also is on point about simply getting a quality felt hat that can go with multiple suits or jackets or vests.

Edward, I'm a huge newsboy fan and wearer, but I'm not picturing the newsboy with this high end sport coat - I may totally change my mind when I have it in hand once the master tailor has completed it.
